Position overview

Registered Nurse Level 2 (RN2) form a key part of direct patient care and lay the foundation of clinical leadership at North Canberra Hospital (NCH). This entails advance knowledge in the field of practice, appropriate skills and experience of team leadership. At NCH, the role of RN2 encompasses four key areas: clinical, management, education and research. RN2 is expected to excel in all four categories.

The RN2 plays a vital role in ensuring that services meet National Health and Quality Standards, improved staff performance and delivery of high-quality evidence-based patient care.

The Undergraduate Clinical Facilitator will work within the Clinical Education team to coordinate, facilitate and support the undergraduate nursing students throughout the year. This support includes clinical support, education sessions, and assessments with regards to the Australian Nursing Standards Assessment Tool (ANSAT). The purpose of this role is to work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders, including the education providers during student clinical placements at NCH, to meet placement requirements for AHPRA registration. The Undergraduate Clinical Facilitator is required to possess a broad range of skills and knowledge that allows them to facilitate clinical placements for Undergraduate Nursing students across the hospital.

Key responsibilities

  1. Coordinate, facilitate, and support undergraduate nursing students on placement at NCH, primarily but not limited to Australian Catholic University (ACU) students.
  2. Work closely with clinical areas across NCH to develop and maintain strong rapport and to liaise appropriately with the education providers involved with the facilitation model in preparing undergraduate nurses for the work force.
  3. Facilitate reflective practice for undergraduate nurses and facilitate or arrange debriefing sessions, providing advice and support, including escalating to external stakeholders as required.
  4. Complete assessments of undergraduate nurses within clinical settings using the Australian Nursing Standards Assessment Tool (ANSAT).
  5. Act as a clinical education resource and clinical support for other nursing staff to facilitate successful preceptorship.
  6. Assist the Policy, Education & Student Placement Clinical Nurse Educator as required with student related projects, resources, orientation, and organisational requirements.
  7. Participate in risk management, quality improvement, nursing practice review, policy/procedures, and clinical research activities associated with undergraduate nursing students and the wider Clinical Education team.
  8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

  • Relevant Tertiary Nursing qualifications in nursing.
  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Desirable

  • A completed Post Graduate (PG) Certificate and/or working toward a PG Diploma or Master’s degree in clinical education or nursing or willingness to commence.
  • Certificate IV TAE40116/or equivalent or working towards.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Experience

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years post RN graduate year experience.
