Position Overview
The Division of Surgery at NCH is responsible for delivering inpatient and outpatients surgical services and includes Surgical Bookings and Pre-Admission Clinic, Anaesthesia, Pain Management Unit, Perioperative Suite, Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, Day Surgery Unit, Admissions, Endoscopy and specialist surgical ward areas.
The Endoscopy Unit provides planned admitted and outpatient services for gastroenterology patients. The service is designed to provide consumers both outpatients and inpatients with access to gastroenterology services The focus for these services includes early intervention, diagnosis and treatment, education, prevention, assessment, treatment plans, surgical preparation, post-operative care for consumers with colonic and gastric abnormalities performing procedures like gastroscopy and colonoscopy under sedation /general anaesthetics.
Endoscopy Level 2 Nurse is a dynamic and skilled professional responsible for the provision of patient centered evidence-based nursing care for every patient. This dynamic and varied role is responsible for all stages of the patient journey within the department including patient admissions, safe intraprocedural care, recovery and safe and appropriate discharge of the patient.
Our nursing team works within an interdisciplinary healthcare team supported by Perioperative Education Team, and the Clinical Nurse Consultant.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Demonstrate professional practice as evidenced by adhering to AHPRA professional standards, Code of Ethics for Nurses in Australia, GENCA and ACORN standards and relevant legislative requirements and policy and procedures.
- Support the nursing team to provide comprehensive direct patient focused care using evidence-based practice, in accordance with primary health care principles and practices, CHS Policies and Clinical guidelines and the values of CHS.
- Act as a valued member of the inter-disciplinary team to provide exceptional patient care by actively contributing to team processes and practices.
- Provide leadership and promote a commitment to high quality customer service principles, practices, and attributes. Performing in the role of Endoscopy team leader, working closely with the patient flow unit and Endoscopy & DPU Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC) in managing patient flow and resource allocation.
- Foster a learning environment through clinical presentations to support the nursing team with their professional development and maintaining own professional learning and continuous professional development and providing supervision and teaching to peers, ENs, graduates and students. Reports and documents the learning needs of graduates and students to the CNC in a timely manner. Actively participates in performing performance appraisals of junior Registered Nurses under the direction of the Endoscopy & DPU CNC.
- Actively participate in and promote a culture of continuous quality improvement that is evidenced based in accordance with the CHS Quality and Clinical Governance Framework. Activities include nursing practice review, quality improvement, clinical research, policy development and review.
- Participates in managing and maintaining equipment, supplies, procurement and quality and safety monitoring and reporting around infection control and GENCA guidelines under the direction of the Endoscopy & DPU CNC. Provides education to Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Medical Staff and Auxiliary Staff on the use, cleaning and maintenance of equipment as required.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Nursing qualification and a minimum of 4 years’ experience working professionally as a Registered nurse with at least 12 months in Perioperative or Day Procedure Unit.
- CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
Highly Desirable
- Relevant post graduate qualifications.
- Train the trainer credentialling.
- Prior Experience in Quality improvement activities or projects will be highly desirable.
- Experience in nursing leadership.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
