Position Overview

The Registered Nurse within the Intensive Care Unit is responsible for and will provide advanced clinical assessment; develop, implement and evaluate patient-centred care plans in collaboration with the patient and their family; and liaise closely with members of the multidisciplinary team. This role requires the applicant to have Critical Care skills and knowledge and be involved in National Standards as well as a commitment to ongoing Professional Development.

Key responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Under limited direction of the clinical nurse consultant you will deliver high quality, evidence based, patient centred care, to our critically ill patients and their families. You will:

  1. Provide direct patient  care, utilising the nursing process  while working within  the prescribed legislation.
  2. Provide direction, support and education of new and less experienced staff and students.
  3. Provide patient  information and education throughout the continuum of care.
  4. Use computerised patient  information and other  PC based systems  to obtain patient and other general information.
  5. Take responsibility for own continuing professional development, competency assessment and appraisal.
  6. Undertake other duties appropriate to this  level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory

  • Registered as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA).
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality nursing care in accordance with the ANMC National Competency Standards for a Registered Nurse.
  • Previous ICU/HDU/CCU experience, minimum of 1 year in Australian Critical Care environments.
  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

  3. Ability to identify and respond appropriately to physiological and psychological deterioration as well as ability to mentor and precept new and/or less experience staff.
  4. Evidence of commitment to maintaining ongoing professional development through participation in education and training activities relevant to clinical practice.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
