The Division of Surgery is responsible for delivering inpatient and outpatient surgical services. The Division includes Surgical Bookings and Pre-Admission Clinic, Anesthesia, Pain Management Unit, Operating Theatres, Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, Day Surgery Unit, Admissions, Day Procedure Unit, Endoscopy, and specialist surgical ward areas.

The Day Procedure Unit (DPU) provides planned admitted and outpatient services for low acuity adult patients. The service is designed to provide consumers with access to surgical services outside the perioperative suite for minor procedures requiring no anesthetic or local anesthetic only, as well as clinic rooms and clinical space in response to organizational demand. The focus for these services includes early intervention, education, prevention, assessment, treatment plans, surgical preparation, post-operative care and ongoing specialist care for patients with chronic complex health conditions. The specialties of Urology and General Surgery frequently run clinics within the DPU with plans to expand into Gynecology. The DPU Registered Nurse level1 is a dynamic and skilled professional responsible for the provision of patient centered evidence-based nursing care for every patient. This dynamic and varied role is responsible for all stages of the patient journey within the department including patient admissions, safe intraprocedural care, recovery and safe and appropriate discharge of the patient. Our nursing team works within an interdisciplinary healthcare team supported by Perioperative Education Team, and the Clinical Nurse Consultant.

The DPU Registered Nurse level 1 role reports to the DPU Level 2 and the Day Procedure Unit and Endoscopy Clinical Nurse Consultant. For Registered Nurses starting out in Day Procedure unit role, the environment and workflows may represent a very different way of Nursing. We have a foundational education program designed to provide a consistent approach in the support of new endoscopic nurses as you develop nursing new knowledge and skills.

• Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.

Essential

• Previous experience in surgical area will be beneficial

Desirable

• Prior experience in Endoscopy will be highly desirable
