Position overview
The Childbirth Educator Level 2 Midwife is responsible for the coordination, delivery, and continuous improvement of antenatal education programs at North Canberra Hospital. This role provides comprehensive, evidence-based education to families preparing for childbirth, ensuring programs are engaging, accessible, and responsive to community needs.
The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced midwifery knowledge and expertise in education delivery, enabling the facilitation of innovative and interactive classes and information sessions for the public. The position includes oversight of program coordination, including scheduling, resource management, and consumer engagement, with a strong focus on incorporating feedback to enhance service quality.
In addition, the Level 2 Midwife will provide leadership, mentorship, and clinical education support to less experienced midwifery staff. This includes contributing to the development and implementation of Performance Development Plans for Level 1 Registered Nurses/Midwives, supporting staff to achieve their identified learning goals.
The position holder is also expected to take accountability for their own professional development, maintaining clinical currency and advancing their practice in line with contemporary midwifery standards.
Key responsibilities
Under limited direction of the Clinical Midwife Consultant, you will provide and coordinate comprehensive and engaging education programs, incorporating adult learning principles to women and their support people.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Demonstrated evidence of advanced clinical knowledge and skill in providing midwifery care.
- Demonstrated evidence of advanced clinical knowledge and skill in providing education programs designed to meet the educational needs related to pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting to women of all complexities.
- Demonstrated clinical leadership skills with particular focus on effective interpersonal communication skills within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Be registered as a Registered Midwife (Division 1) or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- The successful applicant will need to be available for weekend and after-hours work.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

- Qualifications or additional study in education, teaching, adult learning, health promotion or facilitation.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Experience

Essential
- Demonstrated clinical experience across the maternity continuum, including antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.
- Experience providing education, support and health promotion to birthing people, families and support people.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information in a clear, engaging and culturally sensitive manner.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a dedicated parent education, childbirth education or maternity education role.
- Experience facilitating group education sessions, workshops or classes.
- Demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles and educational methodologies

Prior to commencement
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
