Position overview
Clare Holland House (CHH) provides palliative care including pain and symptom control, respite and end of life care as part of Canberra Health Services (CHS). We are focused on supporting patients and families who are dealing with life limiting illnesses. Our goal is to help patients achieve dignity, comfort and maximize the quality of life as they progress into end of life. Clare Holland House comprises of an inpatient unit, Specialist Palliative Aged Care Team (PEACE), and community specialist palliative care service (CSPCS), which provide palliative care to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and surrounding region.
There is an expectation that the successful applicants will maintain accountability for their own practice standards, education and work collaboratively with the Clare Holland House/ North Canberra Hospital team to support the professional development of the CHH nursing workforce
Key responsibilities
- Provide educational leadership through the coordination and delivery of training and assessment programs for staff. Provides oversight, direction and guidance for nursing education.
- Provide leadership and coordination for a small team of Clinical Development Nurses, including supporting staff development, providing guidance and mentorship, coordinating education activities and fostering a collaborative team environment to ensure the effective delivery of clinical education programs.
- Develop, implement and evaluate quality evidence based-practice clinical education and assessment processes. Ensure programs meet the National Safety Quality Healthcare Standards education requirements.
- In collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Consultants and Clinical Development Nurse, collect and provide data on staff completion of education ensuring that staff at CHH meet the mandatory training requirements. Conduct regular reviews assessing whether the education provided for the Clare Holland House team meets the requirements.
- Participate in and advocate for quality improvement and research in education. Conduct quality projects, reporting, and accreditation projects to analysis performance and develop systematic efforts to improve. Risk manages and benchmark education programs.
- Provide professional and clinical education through role modelling, consultation and communication. Establish and maintain excellent professional relationships within ACT Health, external organisations, professional bodies and other groups as required. Role model effective written, verbal and nonverbal communication processes. Collaborate with CNC on educational needs for staff and performance development.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential
- Relevant registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Relative experience in Post graduate Palliative care qualifications, or working towards in nursing, education or related field.
- Recent relevant experience in Education.
- Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or Health Education.
- Current driver’s licence.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Experience
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
Essential
- A minimum of 4 years’ experience working professionally in nursing (or FTE equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience in providing education.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Desirable
- Recent relevant experience in Education including developing and delivery learning packages.
- Recent relevant experience in leading and managing a small team.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

- Proven experience in clinical education and training within a complex healthcare environment, demonstrating the ability to design, implement, and evaluate clinical nursing education programs using contemporary learning methodologies to enhance knowledge transfer, achieve defined learning objectives, and support continuous quality improvement.
- Highly developed and effective written and verbal communication skills, with proven interpersonal skills. The ability to lead, develop and maintain networks with internal and external stakeholders identify opportunities to improve education delivery through partnerships and benchmarking.
- Ability to provide accurate reports on training and to set priorities having regard to available resources considering patient experience in developing programs and to work with consumers in the development of programs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage or lead a small team, including coordinating staff activities, providing guidance and mentoring, supporting professional development, and fostering a collaborative and positive team environment to achieve organisational and patient care objectives.
