Position overview

The Women's and Children's Division within North Canberra Hospital provides maternity, neonatal and gynaecology services to women, babies and their families across the ACT. Services include antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care, gynaecology services, Special Care Nursery (SCN) care and domiciliary support. Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team comprising nursing and midwifery staff, medical officers and allied health professionals.

The Enrolled Nurse will prepare the required nutrition for neonates in the Special Care Nursey (SCN) and Maternity Unit. The Enrolled Nurse will also provide direct care to neonates and their families under the direction and supervision of experienced Registered Neonatal Nurse/Midwives.

The Enrolled Nurse will take responsibility for their own professional development.

Key responsibilities

  1. Prepare, label, store and distribute prescribed infant formula, expressed breast milk (EBM) and nutritional products in accordance with organisational policies, food safety standards and clinical requirements.
  2. Maintain accurate patient feeding records and monitor prescribed feeding regimens to ensure safe preparation and delivery of neonatal nutrition.
  3. Maintain hygiene, infection prevention and food safety standards within the milk preparation area, including cleaning, monitoring and documentation requirements.
  4. Manage stock levels of formula, feeding equipment and consumables, including stock rotation, ordering processes and monitoring expiry dates.
  5. Coordinate the delivery of nutritional products and feeding equipment to clinical areas as required.
  6. Complete relevant clinical, administrative and data collection activities associated with milk preparation services.

  • Be registered as an Enrolled Nurse or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • The successful applicant will need to be available for a rotating roster 0930-1800 shift time weekdays and weekends).
