Position Overview

Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Educator, the Clinical Development Nurse is responsible for supporting the implementation and delivery of education within the ICU CCU, to deliver key outcomes in line with the ICU/CCU Annual Education Strategy, Monthly Plan and Inservice Calendar. They provide supervision, support, competency assessment, formal and informal education and training to all staff in the ICU/CCU to promote and maintain high quality, safe, patient care within the ICU/CCU.

The ICU CCU comprises a 10-bed medical/surgical ICU/HDU and a 6 bed non-interventional CCU providing care for approximately 1500 patients per year.

Key responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Functioning in line with the Registered Nurse Level 2 Workforce Standard requirements and role modelling excellent clinical care.
  2. Providing direct and indirect supervision and support, to all staff in the ICU/CCU including students, new graduates and transition to critical care nursing staff.
  3. Promoting safety & quality and utilisation of organisational policy, procedure and process.
  4. Providing opportunities for a variety of education opportunities including mandatory training, inservice delivery, competency assessment, and team-based learning and reflection inclusive of simulation.
  5. Support the provision of programs that support the development of all staff at varying stages of their ICU CCU careers (Transition to Critical Care, ACCESS development, leadership development).
  6. Assisting with recruitment, education administration, reporting, program evaluation and other tasks as delegated by the Clinical Nurse Educator.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory

  • Post Graduate Qualifications in Critical Care Nursing.
  • ALS qualification.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • A minimum of 3 years post graduate experience within the critical care unit.
  • Evidence of commitment to professional development of self and others.
  • Evidence of commitment to quality improvement, resource development, policy and procedure review/update and clinical research.
  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Highly Desirable

  • Certificate IV in Training or assessment, other post graduate qualification in Education or willingness to obtain.
  • Previous experience with formal health professional education and training.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

What you Require (Key Selection Criteria)

  1. Demonstrated clinical proficiency in critical care nursing, including management of patients requiring mechanical ventilation, advanced haemodynamic monitoring, cardiac complications and renal replacement therapies.
  2. Demonstrated proficiency in non-technical skills including effective communication, supervision, leadership, problem solving and negotiation skills.
  3. Capacity to utilise evidence-based practice and adult learning principles to deliver effective education and training including clinical supervision, mentoring, competency assessment, bedside teaching and formal education delivery including simulation.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of and participation in nursing practice review, clinical research and/or quality improvement activities leading to enhanced patient outcomes. commitment to own continued clinical educational and professional development.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviors consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
