Position Overview
The Women and Children Division within North Canberra Hospital provides Maternity, Neonatal & Gynaecology services to women and their families in the ACT. These services include antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care; gynaecology care; neonatal special care nursery support and domiciliary care. Care is provided by a multidisciplinary team including a midwifery and nursing team, medical staff, and allied health.
This position is for Transition to Practice midwives in their first 2-3 years of practice who wish to work in a model that provides continuity of midwifery care and to work in their full scope of practice. The midwife will have knowledge in midwifery practice and demonstrate ability to work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
The midwife will have access to a mentor, clinical education resources and support from other more experienced midwifery staff. They will have a reduced clinical load (75% caseload) to allow for their learning needs. They will work within a small team and be on call for labour and birth during their allocated set days (8 days per fortnight).
The midwife will take responsibility for their own professional development goals in collaboration with their Clinical Midwife Consultant (CMC).
Duties
Under limited direction of the Clinical Midwife Consultant and supported by Level 2 Continuity of Midwifery Care Service (CMCS) midwives, you will perform the role of Registered Midwife – Positional Level 1 CMCS. You will:
- Provide woman/person-centred continuity of midwifery care in a case-load model, working across pregnancy, labour & birth, and the early postnatal period.
- Demonstrated ability in planning, coordinating and providing midwifery care.
- Practice in accordance with relevant North Canberra Hospital and Canberra Health Services (CHS) policies and procedures, the position description, Code of Conduct and industrial agreements.
- Demonstrated commitment to clinical research, quality improvement and procedure development and implementation.
- Participate in clinical auditing and quality improvement activities.
- Communicate positively with families, members of the public, public stakeholders, executive, management and staff.
- Work in accordance with the vision, role and values of Canberra Health Services.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory
- Registered as a Registered Midwife (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Current unrestricted driver licence.
- The successful applicant will be available to work in an on-call capacity on their rostered days of work, including weekends.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
