Position Overview
The Graduate Nurse Program Coordinator oversees the recruitment, professional growth, and overall management of participants in the Graduate Nurse Program, including both Registered Nurse and Enrolled Nurse streams.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery, the Graduate Nurse Program Coordinator will be required use their advanced clinical and education knowledge to deliver, support and develop effective education through the use of adult learning principles. They will also be required to provide support, leadership and wellbeing support to the Graduate Nurse Program Team.
The role will actively seek to build cross-functional relationships for inter-professional education opportunities at North Canberra Hospital while maintaining a focus on Graduate Nurse Program Coordination and support.
This role will need to demonstrate a substantial advanced practice experience in nursing and will apply a systems approach to education programs and units of instruction. A demonstrated excellence in presentation skills; combining sound analytical and evidence-based content with clear explanation is also required. This role will also support a defined area within the National Quality in Health Care Standards.
The Graduate Nurse Program Coordinator will also be required to assist with the responsibilities of the Learning and Development team including but not limited to mandatory training and orientation of hospital staff.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Provide leadership, management and wellbeing support to the Graduate Nurse Program CDN Team.
- Work closely with the Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Unit and TTPP Coordinator at Canberra Hospital to coordinate recruitment and onboarding of large numbers of graduates, in consultation with clinical leaders and educators across CHS.
- Coordinating of Welcome Days, orientation activities and study days.
- Demonstrated high level organisation skills, along with oral and written communication skills.
- Provide oversight of clinical education and professional development activities provided by the CDN team.
- Support Clinical Education activities (including but not limited to; mandatory training & hospital wide education).
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

- Recent experience in leadership and education positions with a minimum of 4 years’ post graduate experience working professionally in nursing.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory
- Registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Minimum of 4 years’ post graduate clinical experience in relevant specialist field(s) of health care.
- Experience in the supervision of newly graduated nurses.
- Experience with facilitating the learning needs of Graduate Nurses within their role in a clinical environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and simulation learning techniques used in clinical facilitation and training.
- Demonstrated clinical leadership qualities in the workplace that reflect the values of the organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to provide supervision, mentor and coaching strategies to support nurses in all clinical areas and practice staff in the nursing division.
- Demonstrated high levels of communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications and familiar with eLearning platforms.
- CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
Highly Desirable
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or other post graduate qualifications.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
