Position Overview

The Assistant Director of Midwifery provides leadership and management of the midwifery and nursing team within the North Canberra Hospital Women and Children Division.   This includes but not limited to: overseeing the delivery of quality and safe patient care by meeting the NSQHS Standards, operational planning, supporting a skilled workforce, quality improvement, human resource management, financial and capital assessment management and administrative coordination.

The role will work closely with the W&C Clinical Director and Executive Director to deliver quality and safe care for women and neonates entering the service.

Duties

Under limited direction, the ADOM is responsible for providing high level nursing leadership to support the day-to-day operations to contribute to strategic directions of the Women and Children Division.

This role provides:

  1. High level nursing leadership which enables the effective coordination and provision of safe patient centred care.
  2. Clinical expertise through the application of evidence-based practices in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in compliance with NSQHS standards.
  3. Efficient resource management across Women and Children Division Midwifery and Nursing teams ensuring patient care and safety is maximised and inpatient KPIs are achieved.
  4. Delivery against the endorsed business plan objectives and operational targets that are aligned with Women and Children Division KPIs and relevant Models of Care.
  5. High level written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and utilise effective team building techniques to mentor, support and promote harmonious staff relationships within the Women and Children Division.
  6. Active involvement in clinical governance systems and processes through quality activities, program and process evaluation, outcomes measurement and membership of committees and working parties.
  7. Facilitates the implementation of Workforce Diversity, Workplace Health and Safety, Industrial Democracy principles and practices and demonstrates a commitment to the values of North Canberra Hospital.
  8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of North Canberra Hospital.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory

  • Relevant Registered Midwife or dual Registered Nurse/Midwife qualifications and a minimum of 5 plus years’ experience working in maternity and/or gynaecology.
  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
