Position Overview
The ICU career medical officer position is hospital specific Medical Officer skilled in Critical Care Medicine. We are seeking a medical officer who is experienced in ICU and interested in pursuing a career in Intensive Care. Career Medical Officers undertake duties in the care and treatment of patients critically ill patients within the ICU or referring departments.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Under limited direction of the ICU consultants and transition year Fellow, you will conduct appropriate care and treatment of critical care patients. You will:
- Be responsible for immediate patient care including adequate history taking, physical examination, ongoing continuous review of patient condition and progress, investigations and therapy indicated by unit protocol or as directed by the duty specialist. Determine and facilitate in timely disposition of patient, with guidance from senior clinicians if required.
- Participate in rostered duties as allocated including a week on week off roster involving day and night shifts.
- Take responsibility for supervising clinical duties of registrars, resident medical officers, and visiting medical students.
- Assist in the development and delivery of education and quality assurance programs required to keep the ICU functioning to the high standard. Additionally play a role in the education of critical care to the wider hospital.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory
- Registered or eligible for unconditional registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- The successful applicant will need to be available for weekend and after-hours work.
- Have significant and demonstratable experience in Intensive Care Medicine.
- CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.

- Comply with Canberra Health Services Credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for medical professionals.

Intensive Care Medicine, including involvement in further education and quality assurance activities. - Demonstrated experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to the importance and provision of teaching at all levels, including medical, nursing, scientific and allied health professional staff, both postgraduate and undergraduate.
