We are a medium-large metropolitan ED in a medium sized general hospital. We are going through an exciting time of integrating models of care with the larger territory facility and commencing planning for a new North Side Hospital.

We see ~ 62500 patients / years.
- We have approximately 15% paediatric presentations.

Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following under limited direction of the Clinical Director, you will:
Under limited direction of the Clinical Director, you will perform the following duties;
- In partnership with other members of the Emergency Department team, have accountability for day-to-day operations of the service and endeavour to ensure that clinical, strategic and key performance indicators are met.
- Play a key role in ensuring that care delivery and clinical outcomes within the service reflect best practice.
- Be responsible for the clinical supervision of Registrars and Junior Medical Officers, and for the education and training of medical professionals.
- Be responsible for conducting, supervising and encouraging research and quality assurance activities.
- Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high-quality person and family centred, safe and high-quality patient care.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory
- Hold a Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or an equivalent higher specialist qualification.
- Candidates applying for consideration for Staff Specialist will be considered for selection if they have successfully completed the FACEM fellowship exam written and clinical components within 6 months of the date of completion of this selection process AND are elected to Fellowship within 12 months of the selection process.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Specialist requirements for example for Doctors - Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of <insert name> (<College abbreviation>) or an equivalent higher specialist qualification.
- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- To qualify for consideration as Senior Staff Specialist, the candidate must have been working at a Specialist level for a minimum of 8 years.
- CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

What you Require (Key Selection Criteria)
These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your CV and experience.
- Proven commitment to the maintenance and further development of skills applicable to the area of Emergency Medicine, including involvement in further education and quality assurance activities to the standard expected of a Specialist/Senior Specialist.
- Demonstrates very highly developed communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to liaise with other health care professionals and provide high-level medical advice/opinion on assessment and case management. Senior Staff Specialists should be able to demonstrate how they have influenced/impacted major positive change either within a department or across an organisation.
- Demonstrates the ability to manage people, including the ability to work as part of a team, provide leadership to subordinate staff and work across multidisciplinary issues. Senior Staff Specialists should be able to demonstrate abilities at a Senior level, including the ability to mentor and lead more junior Staff Specialists.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to, and ability in, the provision of teaching at all levels, including medical, nursing, scientific and allied health professional staff, both postgraduate and undergraduate. This should include an understanding of research principles, and an ability to articulate how to contribute towards departmental research activity.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
