Position Overview
North Canberra Hospital are seeking a Emergency Career Medical Officer to join our growing emergency department. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will apply medical knowledge and experience in the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients who present to the emergency department.
Key responsibilities
Under limited direction consultants and clinical director, you apply medical knowledge and experience in the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients who present to the emergency department
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, apply medical knowledge and experience in the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients.
- Maintain effective communication with patients and the relatives, hospital staff, medical colleagues and GPs. Work within personal levels of expertise and seek assistance as required.
- Ensure effective handover of patients requiring on-going care and monitoring at the end of each shift, including the completion of all discharge summaries.
- Maintain medical records in accordance with hospital policy and requirements.
- Participate in Department teaching / audit administrative duties as required.
- Ability to work a shift work roster which MAY include some evenings, public holidays and weekends.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory
- Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Ability to work a shift work roster which MAY include some evenings, public holidays and weekends.
- CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for medical professionals.
