Position overview
Physiotherapy within Allied Health, North Canberra Hospital, provides services to a range of clients in acute inpatients and specialised outpatient settings. Our physiotherapists work closely with patients, carers, referrers, other health professionals and multidisciplinary teams to achieve safe, high quality patient care.
The GRACE Physiotherapy position plays a key role in the multidisciplinary management of patients at the Residential Aged Care Facility/acute care setting interface to deliver services and education, support patient flow and maximise patient outcomes.
The GRACE physiotherapist works collaboratively and operationally with the GRACE team, delivering high quality patient-centered care and associated functions to support service delivery across the clinical spectrum. You will be required to participate in overtime, restricted on-call and shift rosters.
Key responsibilities
- Facilitate effective communication and work collaboratively with patients, families, carers, hospital and RACH staff and GPs to enhance acute care management of residents.

- Complete case, program and activity records to standards required while ensuring data retention policies are followed.
- Exercise independent professional judgement on moderately complex matters, generating innovative solutions to problems and producing a range of solutions.
- Provide education to RACH and hospital staff, students, patients and carers and participate in education programs for area of service delivery.
- Supervise physiotherapy or allied health students on clinical placement.
- Participate in team and program related service activities as required.
- Participate in supervision, credentialing, continuing professional development and performance management.
- Participate and contribute to the ongoing review, monitoring, evaluation and reporting requirements for this role.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific requirements include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary Qualification or related qualification in Physiotherapy.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Current driver’s licence without restriction.
Desirable
- Post graduate qualification in Aged Care or equivalent.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific requirements include but are not limited to the following.
Essential
- A minimum of three years’ experience working professionally as a physiotherapist.
Desirable
- Experience in a similar role and/or acute care hospital setting
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.
