Position overview
Physiotherapy within Allied Health at North Canberra Hospital provides services to a range of clients in the Emergency Department, acute inpatient and specialised outpatient settings. Our physiotherapists work closely with patients, carers, referrers and multidisciplinary teams to achieve safe, timely, high quality patient care.
The clinical educator position will have a key role in delivering high quality patient centred care through the teaching, training and education of physiotherapy staff and students. This is an exciting opportunity to assist in the coordination, development, delivery and evaluation of student placements, support team members in the delivery of high-quality student education and facilitate staff professional development and capability.
The role includes the promotion and support of quality clinical supervision, research and the fostering of an environment that supports evidence-based practice and service delivery where necessary. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the physiotherapy management team, senior clinicians and key stakeholders to align education initiatives and strategies with contemporary healthcare priorities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide high level of clinical expertise and practice across a range of clinical areas and manage own clinical caseload as required.
- Provide specialised clinical expertise and interventions across a range of acute clinical areas.
- Provide clinical leadership, teaching and training, and supervision for students and/or staff within Physiotherapy in consultation with the manager and senior physiotherapy leadership team.
- Consult and liaise with university partners and external agencies to support clinical teaching, curriculum development and research.
- Contribute to policy development, quality improvement, service review and development initiatives, and organisation accreditation.
- Actively support teaching and training activity within physiotherapy and other disciplines and across programs and services.
- Promote professional research and contribute to advances within the profession.
- Participate in team and program related service activities as required.
- Participate in clinical supervision, credentialing, continuing professional development and performance management.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific requirements include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary Qualification in Physiotherapy
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Post graduate qualifications in education and training or relevant clinical field.
Experience
Specific requirements include but are not limited to the following.
Essential
- Minimum of 5 years clinical experience post entry level qualifications.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the acute care setting.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Desirable
- Previous experience as a clinical educator highly desirable.
- Post graduate qualifications in education and training or relevant clinical field.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

Key selection criteria

- Proven extensive experience in providing high standard of physiotherapy service across a variety of acute care +/- outpatient settings and the ability to promote and demonstrate best practice through the integration of evidence into clinical practice.
- Demonstrated experience and/or ability in the provision of clinical education leadership including the coordination of a range of teaching and training strategies for Physiotherapy staff and students and broader Allied Health education programs.
- High level communication and teamwork skills, including the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external service providers and stakeholders.
- Proven ability in clinical governance systems to ensure delivery of services and teaching and training that is safe, effective, high quality and continuously improving.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
