Position overview

The North Canberra Hospital Physiotherapy Director ensures the delivery of exceptional care and safe, high quality Physiotherapy services in line with professional standards, CHS governance frameworks, strategic and operational plans, and the National Safety and Quality Health Service standards. They ensure the optimal performance of the physiotherapy service and team through the implementation of operational processes, professional development and supervision, engagement in service evaluation and improvement and research activities. The Physiotherapy Director is also an integral member of the NCH Allied Health leadership team, supporting effective performance of allied health service across the hospital and works in collaboration with physiotherapy services across the CHS network.

Under limited direction from the Executive Director of Allied Health, Ambulatory and Palliative care, the NCH Physiotherapy Director provides clinical and operational leadership and governance over physiotherapy services, responsible for the delivery of clinical services, which may include neurology and stroke, medical, surgical, women and infants, Emergency Department, musculoskeletal outpatients and Lymphoedema at North Canberra Hospital.

Key responsibilities

  1. A Level 2 Allied Health Assistant will fulfill the duties under the direct or indirect supervision of an Allied Health Professional.
  2. Clinical and operational accountability, leadership and governance of the service, ensuring the delivery of effective, safe and evidence-based physiotherapy service across all areas of service delivery.
  3. Be accountable for self, performance of the work unit, managing all risks and issues while developing plans and objectives for short-term tasks and contributing to business improvement strategies.
  4. Professional leadership and management to staff within the physiotherapy department and leadership for the development, management, reporting and evaluation of team activity, and the effective use of financial, human and physical resources.
  5. Contribute to policy development, planning and clinical standards for team in consultation with the CHS Lead Professional, senior manager and staff.
  6. Provide professional advice across a range of clinical areas relevant to discipline, or complex, novel or critical work at a high level of expertise.
  7. Initiate and facilitate clinical governance within the team, including quality improvement activity, continuing professional development and research in conjunction with the leadership team.
  8. Actively support teaching and training activity relating to professional field within team while assisting with continuing professional development and performance management.
  9. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Approved Degree or Postgraduate qualifications in Physiotherapy.
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Current drivers license.
