Position Overview

Duties

Under professional supervision, you will:

1. Provide appropriate skilled assessment and intervention across a range of clinical areas, using contemporary evidence-based principles and techniques. Exercise independent professional judgement in solving problems and managing more complex cases.
2. Work effectively and collaboratively with the speech pathology and interdisciplinary team.
3. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including consumers, carers, and other service providers, to facilitate effective service provision.
4. Complete non-clinical and administrative duties as required, while adhering to data retention policies and procedures.
5. Participate in education programs for areas of clinical service delivery.
6. Contribute to the development and evaluation of clinical governance activities, policies and procedures, service and quality improvement projects, research activities, and health promotion in areas relevant to service.
7. Participate in supervision, continuing professional development, and performance management. Provide professional supervision and/or training to other staff and students.
8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory

• A degree in Speech Pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Eligibility to be a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP) with Speech Pathology Australia.
• A current driver’s licence.
• CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Desirable

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience working professionally.
• Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
• Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:.

• Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
• Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
• Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
• Comply with CHS Credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

What you Require (Key Selection Criteria)

These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience.

1. Recent experience in evidence-based assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with communication, swallowing or feeding difficulties in two or more areas relevant to acute Speech Pathology at North Canberra Hospital:
   • Acquired neurological conditions including stroke
   • Aged care and general medicine
   • Critical care including tracheostomy
   • Instrumental dysphagia assessment – Videofluoroscopy, Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation Swallowing
   • Neonatal feeding
   • Palliative care
2. High level verbal and written communication abilities with demonstrated ability to work progressively within and across teams including coordinating client management across the continuum of care with other health professionals and service/care providers.
3. An understanding of and ability to develop and implement quality improvement activities and participate in research and in-service activities, continuing professional development and evidence-based practice.
4. Ability and/or experience in the supervision and performance management of Speech Pathologists and/or Speech Pathology students.
5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
