The Finance Team at North Canberra Hospital is seeking a motivated and well-organized individual who can work independently and as a team member in the accountant role, including end of month reporting.

Under limited direction of the senior accountant the primary responsibilities of the position are:

The accounting duties include:

  1. Perform the following monthly accounting duties for the North Canberra Hospital:
    • Preparation of accounts.
    • Prepare and oversee reconciliations.
    • Assist in preparation of reports to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Provide analysis of data and interpret accounts as requested.
  2. Assist and support tasking for Senior Financial Accountant in preparation of government reports.
  3. Provide monthly reports on Special Purpose Trust Fund accounts.
  4. Maintenance and administration function of accounting systems including APIAS, Oracle and PBRC;
  5. Supervision of the Assistant Accountant.
  6. Assist and support the Business Managers with reporting and budgets as required.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

  • Degree in Commerce, Accounting or Business majoring in accounting preferred.
  • Significant accounting experience including supervision of staff essential;
  • Full membership of institute of Chartered Accountants or CPA Australia desirable.

Experience

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in the maintenance of a multi-ledger, general ledger system to Financial Statement stage, including account reconciliations;
  • Demonstrated high level oral and written communication and analytical skills;
  • Strong prior experience with Excel/Access skills including data manipulation functions;
  • A demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to develop improvements and implement change to systems and processes.
  • Experience with APAIS, Oracle and PBRC systems preferred.
  • Prior experience in supervising and coaching staff.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

Desirable

  • Prior experience with biomedical equipment and technology would be highly desirable
  • Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, and all other related frameworks.

  2. Outline your experience maintaining and administering financial systems (such as APIAS, Oracle, PBRC or similar), preparing government reports, and supporting audit or compliance requirements.
  3. Demonstrate your ability to analyze complex financial datasets, identify issues or variances, and recommend solutions. Describe how you prioritize workloads, manage competing deadlines, and maintain accuracy while working with limited direction. Include reference to your Excel or data manipulation skills.
  4. Provide examples of your experience supervising or mentoring staff and supporting Business Managers with budgeting, financial reporting, and analysis. Describe how you communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
