Please note that this is an accredited radiology training position commencing in either August 2026 or February 2027. An initial contract will be issued for a two‑year period, with any further extensions, subject to relevant training requirements and progression.

The CHS Medical Imaging Department operates 24 hours, seven days a week, offering a wide range of imaging modalities. The service provides state of the art radiology including X-Ray, CT, MRI, PET, Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine services for patients in Canberra and the Southeast Region of NSW. There is ongoing growth of the TCH Medical Imaging Department, most recently with the opening of the new Critical Services Building (CSB – Building 5) in 2024 which contains 3 x CT, 1 x 3.0T MRI, 1.5 T MRI, 3 x ultrasound rooms, and 3 x specialised Interventional Radiology Angiography Suites including a hybrid CT-Angio suite. We are committed to providing our patients with cost-effective, easily accessible subspecialty expertise along with a strong commitment to research and training in advancing the use of imaging for the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The primary training site is The Canberra Hospital, divided between the original Medical Imaging Department and Critical Services Building which also houses Emergency Department, ICU, surgical theatres and acute surgical wards. Trainees are regularly rotated to additional local sites which include Weston Creek Imaging Service, TCH Fetal Medicine Unit, ACT BreastScreen, Canberra Imaging Group (private practice rotation) and rural rotation sites of Orange, Bathurst, and Dubbo. Canberra trainees are expected to complete three to six months of rural rotations during the five-year training program.

Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work as a junior medical officer in the Medical Imaging Department at CHS, under the guidance of specialist radiologists.
- Provide competent and efficient clinical Medical Imaging (MI) management of patients of CHS under the supervision and direction of specialist radiologists. Clinical MI management includes inpatient and outpatient reporting, triaging multi-modality imaging requests, inter-disciplinary consults and image-guided interventional procedures.
- Maintain a co-operative relationship with multidisciplinary clinical teams, especially through regular MDT meetings.
- Work within and support a multidisciplinary team approach.
- Assist in progression of training in the specialty including participation in the RANZCR teaching program and activities, timely completion of assessments and involvement in research.
- Demonstrate commitment to training and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities, involvement in research, and teaching of junior medical staff and/or medical students.
- Contribute to clinical audit and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).

- Currency in Basic Life Support Course to be attained within three months of commencement with annual refreshers.
- Will be completing the equivalent of at least two years of relevant full time clinical experience
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

- Academic awards, high distinction average throughout medical school, results on Part 1 preparation course exams (e.g. HETI physics and anatomy courses)

- Physics and anatomy courses, radiology rotations, radiology department work
- Good balance of past clinical rotations and experience
- Medicine, surgery, women’s health and paediatrics, ED, ICU
- Volunteering in a radiology department
- Skills and attitude that would positively contribute to the CHS radiology department
- Teaching experience, mental health courses, communication courses, cultural safety courses, clinical governance
- Radiology-related research
- Radiology based research, author of research papers including systematic reviews/ clinical audit.
