This is a full time (1.0 FTE) appointment commencing February 2027 with the possibility of extension for a further 12 months. To be eligible for this position you must be PGY7+ and have been accepted into CMFM Subspecialty training. Salary and conditions of service are in accordance with the current ACT Public Sector Medical Practitioners Union Collective Agreement. This position is inclusive of shift work which is undertaken outside normal working hours.
The Centenary Hospital for Women and Children is the level 6 tertiary referral centre for the ACT and surrounding region with over 3700 births. It has a busy Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with a regional role extending throughout southern NSW and over 200 level 3 admissions each year. It is the only tertiary care perinatal unit between Sydney and Melbourne and thus has a busy Maternal Fetal Medicine Department.
The Maternal Fetal Medicine Department provides MFM subspecialty patient care with consultations, diagnostic services, invasive procedures, counselling, and multidisciplinary management of high-risk pregnancies and assessment and management of pregnancies complicated by fetal anomalies This team includes MFM consultants, trainees, sonographers, midwives, genetic counsellors and administrative team members and works closely with specialists in Obstetrics, Neonatology, Clinical Genetics, Anaesthetics, Medicine and Paediatric Surgery. The MFM Department at CHS has a large catchment with a large volume of pathology. A wide range of specialised Obstetric clinics are offered, including maternal medicine/high risk pregnancy clinics, placental mediated disease clinic, preterm birth clinic, preconception counselling clinic, combined obstetric anaesthetics clinic and perinatal loss clinics. There are daily fetal medicine clinics with a high exposure to pathology and diagnostic procedures.
This position also has access to all the relevant multidisciplinary areas of CMFM training such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Adult ICU, Pathology Department, Emergency Department, Operating theatre and Genetics clinics. There is an on-call component for successful applications, either on the senior registrar roster, or the consultant roster, depending on the applicant’s level. This role may also involve some time spent in the general O&G department depending on needs of the successful applicant and department. There is support to complete the Essential ATM for those completing their FRANZCOG training also.
This position will be an Unaccredited Senior Registrar in Maternal Fetal Medicine (see requirements below).
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Attend to rostered duties, which primarily sit within the Maternal Fetal Medicine Department. Other duties may include care of patients on the Birthing Suite, inpatient ward areas, outpatient clinics and the operating theatre
- Participate in on call duties or after hours MFM and/or O&G roster relevant to level
- Report regularly all matters of significance to the Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists and/or Medical Unit Director
- To be responsible for coordinating the weekly High Risk meeting
- Participate in quality improvement, peer review and research programs
- Participate in the lecturing and training of junior medical staff, medical students, allied health staff and nurses; and
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation, including out of hours cover across MFM and Obstetrics and General Gynaecology as appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).
- Completed the RANZCOG Integrated Training Program or equivalent training
- Be an accredited CMFM subspecialty trainee
- Must be post graduate year seven or more
- Have completed at least 48 months of full-time equivalent experience in recognised registrar training position and substantially completed fellowship training
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

- Sufficient experience and availability to participate in the after-hours Senior Registrar or consultant on-call O&G roster (depending on level)

- Sufficient experience to supervise junior medical staff independently.
- Experience with clinical research and writing scientific papers.
- Experience in fetal medicine units and proficiency of ultrasound will be preferred.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
