The ICU Career Medical Officer (CMO) position is a hospital specific Medical Officer skilled in Critical Care Medicine. We are seeking a CMO who is experienced in ICU and interested in pursuing a career in Intensive Care. CMOs undertake duties in the care and treatment of critically ill patients within the ICU and referring departments.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for immediate patient care including adequate history taking, physical examination, ongoing continuous review of patients condition and progress, investigations and therapy indicated by unit protocol or as directed by the duty specialist.
- Determine and facilitate timely disposition of patients with the guidance of senior clinicians if required.
- Participate in rostered duties as allocated including a week on week off roster involving day and night shifts.
- Supervising clinical duties of registrars, resident medical officers and medical students.
- Assist in the development and delivery of education and quality assurance programs required to keep the ICU functioning to the high standard and play a role in the education of critical care to the wider hospital.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- Must have an Australian MBBS medical degree of equivalent
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Essential
- At least three years’ post graduate experience in public hospital service
- Have significant and demonstratable experience in Intensive Care Medicine.
Desirable
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
