To be eligible to apply for this position you must be PGY3+. This position is a full-time position, commencing 1 February 2027, for 12 months with possible extension.

North Canberra Hospital (NCH), Bruce is a 256-bed public hospital providing acute and sub-acute services, with our Emergency Department receiving around 55,000 presentations per year.

The Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) is a hospital specific medical officer training in adult internal medicine, and Medical Assessment Planning Unit (MAPU) and ambulatory care service. MAPU provides multidisciplinary assessment, care and treatment of acutely ill medical patients, with a predicted length of stay of 48-72 hours. We are seeking a SRMO who is unaccredited and interested in pursuing a career in General Medicine who wish to further their exposure in adult internal medicine. SRMO’s will undertake duties in the care and treatment of patients in various departments.

Key responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Help resuscitate, assess and admit acutely sick medical patients under the supervision of a registrar or consultant.
  • Participate in the daily ward rounds.
  • Participate in meetings and education sessions as scheduled.
  • Maintain medical records in accordance with hospital policy and requirements in a timely fashion, including instituting and maintaining discharge summaries.
  • Ensure diagnosis / problem / issue lists are kept up to date and entered into My Digital Health Record prior to transfer.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Australian MBBS or equivalent.
  • Registered or eligible for general registration or provisional registration via the competent authority pathway with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Have satisfactorily completed an accredited internship within the previous five years.

  • Successful completion of at least two years full-time equivalent employment as a Junior Medical Officer.
  • Proficient computer literacy skills, as you will be responsible for completing clinical documentation in the DHR and using other CHS IT systems.
  • Ability to meet recency of practice requirements with AHPRA.
