To be eligible to apply for this position you must be PGY2+. This position is a full-time position, commencing 1 February 2027 for 12 months with possible extension.  

North Canberra Hospital (formerly Calvary Public Hospital Bruce) and Clare Holland House are now run and operated by Canberra Health Services (CHS). This is a significant milestone as the ACT Government is moving towards delivering a new hospital on Canberra’s Northside.

The new Northside Hospital will be built on the existing North Canberra Hospital (NCH) campus in Bruce. It will be a modern, state-of-the-art hospital for patients, visitors and its workforce and will provide more beds and increased services. Until then, it's business as usual at NCH, and we'll keep providing high-quality care to our patients and community.

The Resident Medical Officer assists the Consultants, subspecialty Consultants and accredited General Medicine Registrars in the care and management of General Medicine patients. These are non-accredited positions and entail participation in a general medical roster that includes nights and weekends.

Key responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Participate in the daily ward rounds.
• Participation in in-patient and out-patient activity.
• Participation in clinical meetings.
• Maintain medical records in accordance with hospital policy and requirements in a timely fashion, including instituting and maintaining discharge summaries.
• Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential

• An Australian MBBS medical degree or equivalent, completed within the previous six years.
• Have satisfactorily completed an accredited internship within the previous five years.
• Be registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).

Desirable

• Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Experience

Essential

• Minimum of one year post graduate experience with suitable hospital-based experience.
• Proficient computer literacy skills, as you will be responsible for completing clinical documentation in the DHR and using other CHS IT systems.
• Ability to meet recency of practice requirements with Ahpra.

Desirable

• Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

• Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
• Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
