Position overview

This position is for a February 2027 commencement with a contract offered for a period of one year. To be eligible for this position, applicants need to be PGY7+ at the time of commencement.

Join a robust medical team led by 50 FACEMs, including five PEMs, and a large Registrar cohort.

Play a pivotal role in one of the busiest EDs in the country, with greater than 100,000 presentations annually, 25% paediatric caseload. We are the regional referral centre for Trauma, Paediatrics and Women’s health; and support ACT and a large area of southern NSW.

The PGF is supervised by ED Specialists and will assist in the supervision of Junior Medical Officers, as well as provide direct clinical care for patients. The PGF will take part in the on-call consultant roster, with ED Staff Specialist backup on-call.

It is especially recognized as a good place to raise a family. We have immediate access to National Parks, hiking, climbing and are 3 hours from both the beach and the snow.

Key responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Operational Accountability: Collaborate with the ED team to manage day-to-day operations, ensuring adherence to clinical, strategic, and key performance indicators.
• Clinical Excellence: Play a crucial role in promoting best practices, influencing care delivery, and enhancing clinical outcomes.
• Supervision and Education: Provide clinical supervision for Registrars and Junior Medical Officers, contributing to the education and training of medical professionals.
• Research and Quality Assurance: Lead or participate in research and quality assurance activities, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Diverse Clinical Practice: Undertake duties within the approved scope of clinical practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person and family-centred, safe patient care.
• Roster Participation: Engage in the after-hours and on-call roster, including evening and weekend shifts, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in an emergency environment.
• Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential

• MBBS or equivalent
• Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).
• Successful completion of ACEM OSCE prior to contract start
• Have a minimum of seven years postgraduate experience.

Desirable

• Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
• Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Please note prior to commencement, successful candidates will be required to:

• Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
• Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
