Applications are invited for the following Registrar opportunities for the 2027 clinical year, with possible extension.

  • Electrophysiology Fellow and Clinical Research
  • Imaging and Echocardiography
  • Interventional Cardiology

  • Positions are for a February 2027 commencement. To be  eligible to apply you must be PGY4+ by February 2027.

Electrophysiology Fellow and Clinical Research

With three Electrophysiologists plus two advanced pacing consultants, the successful candidate will gain experience in contemporary pacing strategies and advanced ablation techniques. This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in cutting-edge cardiovascular research while gaining valuable clinical experience in EP in a tertiary hospital setting. The successful candidate will work closely with the Cardiology Research Team, contributing to both clinical and translational research projects aimed at improving patient outcomes.

Imaging and Echocardiography

The successful candidate will undergo extensive training in echocardiography including transthoracic, transoesophageal, stress echocardiography, structural guidance echocardiography, contrast echocardiography and CTCA.

Interventional Cardiology

The Interventional Cardiology Service includes two dedicated cardiac catheter laboratories which undertake over 900 coronary interventional procedures (250 STEMIs) annually.  It provides a 24/7 service for primary PCI for acute ST elevation myocardial infarction for the region. A structural heart disease program developed with TAVI, PFO/ASD, TEER, LAAO performed.  We have a strong reliance on adjunct therapies such as IVUS, OCT, FFR, Shockwave and Rotablation.

Key responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide high-quality clinical care to cardiology patients, participate in on-call duties, and assist in training junior medical staff and students.
  • Present research findings at departmental meetings, national, and international conferences, while mentoring junior registrars and research students.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of research activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards. Assist in managing research budgets and resources, while engaging in continuous professional development through relevant courses and workshops.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
  • Contribute to Advanced Trainee cardiology on-call service (1 in 8).
  • Demonstrate commitment to training and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities, involvement in research, and teaching of junior medical staff and/or medical students

Electrophysiology Fellow and Clinical Research

  • Provide service for EP with three dedicated days in EP Cath Lab with two days in Research.
  • Design, develop, and execute cardiology research projects, ensuring they meet the criteria for potential PhD submissions with successful funding applications.
  • Prepare research protocols, ethics submissions, and grant applications, while conducting literature reviews to stay current with cardiology advancements.
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret research data with a focus on accuracy and integrity, contributing to publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

Imaging and Echocardiography

  • Provide appropriate evidenced based clinical care in the specialty of cardiology and echocardiography for both inpatients and outpatients.
  • Perform and report transoesophageal echocardiogram under supervision.
  • Perform and report transthoracic echocardiogram under supervision.
  • Perform and report stress echocardiogram under supervision.
  • Perform and report TAVI CTs, CT coronary angiograms and calcium scores.
  • Expected exposure - 500 transthoracic echocardiography reports, 100 transoesophageal echocardiography performance and reports, 300 stress echocardiography reports, 50 Definity contrast studies and 50 agitated saline studies.
  • Provide support to clinical scientist in delivering and acquisition of Definity contrast and agitated saline studies.

Interventional Cardiology

  • Participate in a wide range of interventional cardiology procedures, including but not limited to angioplasty, stent placement, and coronary interventions.  Assist with TAVI, PFO/ASD closures, LAAO, TEER and adjunct therapies such as IVUS, OCT, FFR, Shockwave and Rotablation.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient assessment and optimal procedural outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Must have an Australian MBBS medical degree or equivalent
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).
  • Successfully completed RACP clinical exam
  • Must be PG4+

    1. Demonstrated interest in electrophysiology, cardiology research and teaching, with prior experience in both clinical cardiology and cardiology research highly desirable.

    1. Demonstrated clinical experience in the practice of General Cardiology and Cardiac Imaging to manage the varied caseloads and case mix, and to practice evidence-based person-centred care, along with a demonstrated commitment to the maintenance and further development of these skills.
