Applications are sought for the 2027 clinical year, commencing in February 2027 for 12 months with possible extension, at 0.5 FTE. To be eligible for this position, applicants need to be PGY4+
This position is with the Department of Bariatric Medicine (DBM), a multidisciplinary team which sits within the Division of Medicine and is located at Belconnen Community Health Centre. The team provide medically led clinic-based multidisciplinary care for people living with severe obesity and it’s complications, including support for provision of available public funded bariatric surgery.
To be eligible for the position you must be in a formal GP training program. This position has accreditation as extended skills training with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Work hours are within standard weekday hours, and there is no overtime or on-call associated with this position. There is some scope for negotiation of the hours worked within the operational requirements of the unit.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Under limited direction of the Unit Director you will:
- Provide competent and efficient clinical care for patients the Department of Bariatric Medicine and provide input into the multidisciplinary care of patients receiving obesity management, including before and after public funded metabolic bariatric surgery.
- Work collaboratively, flexibly, and efficiently and within an inter-professional clinical team.
- All registrars are required to participate in the outreach, teaching and research activities of the unit as well as relevant formal and informal education and self-directed learning.
- Demonstrate commitment to training program requirements of the RACGP, and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities, as well as timely completion of all training and administrative requirements.
- Contribute to clinical audits/ quality improvement activities and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.
- Comply with the policies and requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), RACP/RACGP and the CHS.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- An Australian MBBS medical degree, or equivalent
- Be registered, or be eligible for, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Enrolled in a formal AGPT training pathway
- GP Term 2 or 3 of a formal GP training program (not first term).
- Must be PGY4+
Desirable
- Be registered under the Working for Vulnerable People Act.
- Achieve and maintain currency in resuscitation and life support credentials.
- Demonstrated interest in obesity management.
- Evidence of the ability and commitment to working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical team.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

- Demonstrated sound clinical, supervisory, ethical and record keeping skills of clinical competence at a level commensurate with postgraduate year three or above.
- Ability to work independently, remaining within scope of practice, in a complex outpatient environment under consultant and other senior staff supervision.
- Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development including completion of AGPT training requirements
- Sound organisational, written and verbal communication skills and Microsoft Office skills, current Basic Life Support training and the commitment to work collaboratively and flexibly in an inter-professional clinical team.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
