Canberra Health Services Patient Support Services provides support for the patients of Canberra Hospital through a range of services, including Wardspersons, Hospital Assistants, Central Equipment and Courier Services, Wards Clerks and the Patient Liaison and Admission Team.
The Patient Support Services Training Coordinator will provide oversight, research and development of the education and training of support services positions, in collaboration with People & Culture. The role works closely with a broad range of internal stakeholders, including education providers, support services staff, and management teams to coordinate and monitor training programs within the competency frameworks.
The role has strong partnerships with a range of internal stakeholders, including education providers, the support services workforce, and the broader support services management team.
This role will manage effective onboarding and orientation processes for the patient support services workforce, inclusive of Wardspersons, Health Assistants, Ward Clerks and other Health Service Officers across CHS.
Key Responsibilities
Under limited director of the Director, you will perform the following duties to support the education and training of the Patient Support Services workforce:
- Lead the development of the work level standards for Patient Support Services through a consultative and collaborative approach with relevant stakeholders.
- Provide leadership, in the onboarding experience of new Patient Support Services through the development of an orientation program that provides consistent orientation and training for all new employees.
- Provide leadership to develop the sustainable coordination processes for the orientation program for new Patient Support Services.
- Contribute to the development of employment frameworks and training policies as needed, associated with CHS Patient Support Services.
- Work in partnership with the workforce development unit to facilitate and provide support for the teaching and training of generic educational programs where appropriate for Patient Support Services.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with managers, supervisors, and staff across the organisation, ensuring that all parties have a clear agreement and understanding of their respective roles and accountabilities.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationship with all relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of the relevant projects listed.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

- Relevant Certificate IV in training and assessment qualifications or a willingness to obtain.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Essential
- Professional experience in the health industry and preferably experience with Patient Support Services.
Desirable
- Experience developing and providing training to staff.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

What you Require (Key Selection Criteria)

- Proven experience and understanding of Health Service workforce training and competency requirements, particularly within patient support services setting.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver training, processes and orientation programs across a diverse workforce with a strong understanding of the ACTPS Work Level Standards (WLS) and capability frameworks, with skill in facilitating learning.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and ability to engage and negotiating with a broad range of stakeholders.
- High level organisational skills, including an ability to plan, set and prioritise competing workloads in a complex environment.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
