Position overview
The Medical Imaging Department at CHS operates 24 hours, seven days week, providing a wide range of diagnostic imaging services. The service provides state-of-the-art Diagnostic Imaging, Interventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine services to patients in Canberra and the Southeast Region of NSW. The service is committed to providing patients with contemporary diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, as well as molecular imaging services with a strong commitment to research and training in advancing the use of imaging for diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The Medical Imaging Department forms part of the CHS Medical Services Group which also includes Pharmacy, Healthcare Technology Management, the Prevocational Education and Training, the Medical Officer Support, Credentialling, Employment and Training Unit (MOSCETU), the GP Liaison Unit (GPLU), ACT Blood Counts Program and the CHS Library and Multimedia.
The Theatre Team Leader role is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the Theatres, whilst working under limited direction and supervision of the MI5 Angio Modality Manager.
The role will perform novel, complex and critical work at a high level of expertise and is responsible for the effective utilisation of available resources to enable service provision within the identified accountability frameworks
Key Responsibilities
Under limited direction of the Angio Modality Lead, you will:
- Provide leadership, management, supervision and clinical services within the Theatres at CHS.
- Exercise independent professional judgement to perform and train other staff in routine and special diagnostic procedures in Theatre.
- Contribute to the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols that support the continuum of care engaging cross-discipline referencing where relevant.
- Participate in research development programs.
- Plan and provide comprehensive education training and other mentoring to existing and new staff including Radiographers, Registrars and other visiting Health Professional students.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Medical Radiation Science (Radiography) or equivalent.
- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Hold a current ACT Radiation Licence (or be eligible to obtain).
- The successful applicant will need to be available to undertake shift work participating in a 24/7 roster including after-hours and weekend, as well as participation in on-call and close-call rosters.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific experience includes, but is not limited to, the following.
Essential
- A minimum of five years’ experience working professionally in general radiography is preferred.
Desirable
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

- Proven experience and expertise in general radiography, including the ability to perform novel, complex and critical procedures.
- Proven high level of supervision and management within a multi-disciplinary team.

- High level liaison, consultation and communication skills with respect to members of staff, patients and users of the Medical Imaging Department.
