Clinical Technology services are offered from the Village Creek Centre and occasionally in homes across the ACT. We pride ourselves on our continual drive for high quality patient care.
The Clinical Technology Workshop provides the following services within the Clinical Technology services:
- Technical support to the Prosthetics and Orthotics Service including device adjustments and manufacture.
- Technical support to the Specialised Wheelchair and Posture Service including product adjustments and manufacture.
- Repairs and maintenance of rehabilitation equipment for clients and CHS services. Equipment serviced includes wheelchairs, mobility aids, and bathing aids.
The team provides services for National Disability Insurance Scheme participants, ACT Equipment Scheme, and various other funding bodies.
Key Responsibilities
Under limited direction of the Senior Technical Officer, you will perform technical tasks in support of the Prosthetic and Orthotic Service, Specialised Wheelchair and Posture Seating Service and other clients of CHS. You will:
- Manufacture, maintain and repair clinical devices, including mobility and seating equipment, prosthetic/orthotic devices and medical grade footwear to suit the requirements of clients.
- Provide technical support to clinical staff in relation to design, fabrication, maintenance and repair of clinical devices, including mobility and seating equipment, prosthetic/orthotic devices and medical grade footwear.
- Manage and record costs of supplies, parts and materials plus compile time usage in a job-card format for invoicing of services.
- Manage and prioritise workflow and perform consistently to a high level in regard to attention to detail of assigned work.
- Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team with a diverse client base.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, redesign activities, continuing professional development and performance management.
- Complete administrative data collection as required and ability to use relevant computer applications.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential
- Trade Certificate or equivalent recognised qualification relevant to the role.
- Working with Vulnerable People registration (or ability to obtain).
Desirable
- Understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Current Driver License.
Experience
Specific experience include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Experience in fabrication, maintenance and repair of technical equipment.
- Experience managing workflow and working independently.
- Experience using workshop tools, machinery and computer systems.
- Knowledge of WHS and quality requirements.
Desirable
- Experience in prosthetics, orthotics, wheelchair/seating or rehabilitation equipment services.
- Experience working in a healthcare setting and/or with NDIS-funded services.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing the required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

- Experience and demonstrated ability in manufacture, modification, maintenance and repair of clinical devices, including mobility and seating equipment, prosthetic/orthotic devices and medical grade footwear.
- Experience and demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise workflows and complete manufacture of specific equipment to design specifications.
- Proven ability to maintain set technical standards in line with industry, TGA and ACT Government and Canberra Health Services legislative and policy requirements.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong and effective working relationships with other members of a multi-disciplinary team as well as clients and their carers.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
