The Acute Allied Health Services (AAHS) Occupational Therapy department is looking for an experienced Occupational Therapy Team Leader/Workforce educator to join the team. The Occupational Therapy team provides a range of inpatient and outpatient services to the medical, surgical and paediatric services in the Canberra Hospital and the surrounding community.

As an Occupational Therapy Team Leader/Workforce educator, you are required to have specialised clinical skills and experience in an acute hospital setting. You will work closely with the Manager of Occupational Therapy in the daily management of clinical services at the Canberra Hospital, including caseload and human resource management, teaching and training, clinical supervision, clinical governance and service planning.

This position will be required to participate in a rotational weekend roster at the Canberra Hospital including on-call responsibilities depending on operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Promote positive outcomes for consumers through the provision of high-quality clinical Occupational Therapy services across designated caseloads as part of a multidisciplinary team including novel and complex patient presentations with a high degree of independence.
2. Provide professional supervision and leadership in the AAHS Occupational Therapy team, uphold the team charter and live the Canberra Health Services values: We are reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
3. Participate in teaching and training activities, support staff through provision of training programs, promote research and quality improvement and contribute to advances in Occupational Therapy in Canberra Health Services.
4. Provide leadership for and contribute to, policy development, planning and clinical standards for Occupational Therapy in consultation with the Manager.
5. Contribute to the evaluation of Occupational Therapy services through robust clinical governance practices and professional development of the team.
6. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification and within the approved scope of clinical practice which contribute to the operations of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential

• Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy,
• Be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA),
• Hold a current driver’s licence.

Desirable

• Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Experience

Essential

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience working professionally in a clinically relevant area
• Prior experience working in an acute hospital with provision of leadership to others in your team.
• Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Desirable

• Prior experience in the delivery of acute health services to adults and /or children, young people and families will be highly desirable.

Prior to commencement

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

• Pre-employment National Police Check.
• Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
• Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience and must be addressed in your application:

1. Proven advanced clinical experience in providing a high standard of Occupational Therapy practice including assessment, complex interventions and guidance that integrates evidence-based practice in Occupational Therapy practice.
2. Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical education for staff, new graduates and student and ability to clinically lead and promote service development of the Occupational Therapy Department within an acute hospital and non-admitted care setting.
3. Demonstrated highly developed leadership, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills, including the ability to build and develop relationships with colleagues, consumers and their families and external groups.
4. Demonstrated ability to lead service improvement activities and/or change, quality improvement and/or research activities within the area, including compliance with National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
