Position overview

The Senior Radiation Therapist- Information, Quality and Data Management role is responsible for leading the integration, governance and optimisation of clinical information systems, data management processes and quality frameworks within Radiation Oncology.

The primary purpose of the position is to ensure accurate, secure and effective use of clinical data and digital systems to support safe, evidence-based patient care and service improvement. The role provides strategic and operational oversight of data integrity, workflow efficiency, system performance and quality assurance activities, while supporting innovation and compliance with reporting standards.

Working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, the position drives continuous improvement initiatives, enhances reporting and analytics capability, and strengthens information management practices to enable high-quality clinical outcomes, operational excellence and informed decision-making across the service.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Lead the governance, maintenance and optimisation of radiation oncology information systems.
  2. Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of clinical and treatment-related data across all radiation oncology systems.
  3. Oversee the standardised collection, validation, and maintenance of radiation therapy data from multiple clinical and administrative sources.
  4. Develop, implement, and monitor data quality controls and validation processes to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and reporting requirements.
  5. Collaborate with clinical, technical, and administrative stakeholders to optimise data entry workflows and resolve data quality or system issues.
  6. Manage data integrity, including auditing of data definitions, standards, and documentation, to support consistent and reliable use of information.
  7. Produce and maintain timely, accurate reports and dashboards to support clinical decision-making, service planning, research, and performance monitoring.
  8. Support quality improvement, audit, and research activities by providing high-quality, fit-for-purpose clinical datasets and analyses.
  9. Provide expert advice and training to staff on data capture, data quality principles, and use of radiation oncology information systems.
  10. Lead continuous improvement initiatives that enhance data processes, reporting capabilities, and the overall use of data to support evidence-based radiation oncology practice.
  11. Contribute to research, data extraction and clinical trials support where required.
  12. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Competencies

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advanced knowledge of radiation oncology workflows & IT systems
  • Ability to ensure the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability of clinical and treatment-related radiation oncology data.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • Capability to train and support staff in systems and data practices
  • Ability to develop documentation, reports, and dashboards
  • Ability to coordinate standardised data collection activities, undertakes validation checks, and maintains accurate datasets across multiple clinical and administrative systems under limited supervision.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, accreditation, and reporting requirements to implement data quality checks and controls that support compliance with mandatory standards.
  • Able to apply data governance principles by maintaining data definitions, standards, documentation, and participating in data audit and review processes to support consistent and reliable use of information.
  • Can produces and maintains accurate and timely routine and non‑routine reports and dashboards to support clinical decision‑making, service planning, research, and performance monitoring within radiation oncology.
  • Provision of high‑quality, fit‑for‑purpose datasets and data inputs to support quality improvement initiatives, audits, and clinical research activities.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with clinical, technical, and administrative stakeholders to support efficient data workflows and assist in resolving data quality or system‑related issues.
  • Can provide specialist advice, guidance, and training to staff on data capture requirements, data quality principles, and appropriate use of radiation oncology information systems within scope of practice.
  • Ability to identify data quality or workflow issues, applies analytical and problem‑solving skills to address routine and moderately complex issues, and contributes to continuous improvement or project‑based initiatives relevant to the area of specialisation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in Radiation Therapy.
  • Registration as a Radiation Therapy Practitioner with the AHPRA Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications, or extensive experience, in health informatics, project management, or a related field.

Experience

Essential

  • At least 5 years post graduate clinical experience
  • Prior experience using ARIA Oncology Information System and EPIC Digital Health Record
  • ARIA System Administration knowledge and experience
  • SQL report writing capability
  • Demonstrated high level attention to detail
  • Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Desirable

  • Prior experience in project management
  • High order interpersonal skills with a focus on delivering high quality patient care
