Rehabilitation, Aged and Community Services (RACS) is a vibrant and diverse Division within CHS providing multidisciplinary rehab, aged and community-based care across a range of settings. RACS services work collaboratively with patients, clients, and individuals, involving their carers and family, as well as other services within and external to CHS.
The UCH based Exercise Physiology (EP) Team are based within the Brindabella Day and Ambulatory Rehabilitation Services (BDARS) and provide Exercise Physiology services to UCH inpatient and outpatient services. This includes BDARS, UCH Inpatient Rehabilitation Wards, Aquatic Exercise/ Hydrotherapy Service and the Sub Acute Mental Health inpatient and outpatient services based at UCH.
The CHS Exercise Physiology Profession Lead provides professional support to the UCH EP team.
This position will require you to work flexibly across services / locations and may be required to participate in a weekend roster.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Under limited direction of the RACS Brindabella Day and Ambulatory Rehabilitation Service Manager you will be responsible for playing a key role in delivering high quality patient centred care and associated functions to support service delivery across clinical programs and areas.
You will:
- Provide a high level of appropriate skilled clinical assessment and interventions across a range of specialised clinical areas, liaising with carers and other service providers to facilitate effective service provision.
- Exercise independent professional judgement in solving problems and managing cases where principles, procedures, and techniques require expansion, adaptation, or modification.
- Contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of client programs and services, including the evaluation and analysis of policies and procedures applicable to professional practice.
- Provide professional supervision and training to Health Professionals Level 1 & 2, Allied Health Assistants, Trainees and Students, and assisting in the supervision of other students.
- Consult and liaise with external community stakeholders to develop partnerships for health promotion and other service delivery activities identified in the organisational business plan.
- Complete case and program records to standards required and meet reporting and data collection requirements.
- Participate in and/or implement and coordinate research programs and quality improvement activities in relevant areas of service delivery.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- Exercise Physiology Degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Current accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
- Registration under the ACT Working with Vulnerable People Act 2011.
- Current Driver’s Licence.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Essential
- A minimum of 3 years (ideally 5 years) post-qualification experience as an Exercise Physiologist.
Desirable
- Previous clinical experience working in a hospital setting.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

- Demonstrated ability to provide high level and complex clinical assessments and interventions for patients needing rehabilitation, with a wide range of conditions and injuries (including neurological, mental health, health promotion and older persons rehabilitation), including the provision of education and health promotion for behaviour change.
- Proven commitment to the delivery of patient centred services that meet high safety and quality health care standards with evidence of quality improvement activities, project management and/or change management.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in an interprofessional treating team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationships, through excellent communication skills and developing leadership skills.
- Proven experience and ability to provide professional supervision and facilitate education across the multi-disciplinary team, including the ability to adapt teaching methodology to suit learner’s needs.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
