Position overview
This position contributes to patient centred care and the research output of CHS by providing client focused reference services to clinicians. You will do this by using your skills as an information professional to research evidence-based medicine resources to provide research and clinical support to staff. This position provides training support to clinicians in the effective use of information resources and is focused on promotion and outreach for our services.
CHS Library and Multimedia is a client focused unit providing essential library and multimedia services to CHS and ACT Health and Community Services Directorate staff. Our services ensure that staff have access to evidence-based, authoritative and up-to-date resources to support their clinical, research and policy work, and they have the training and support to use these resources effectively. Our Multimedia service provides clinical graphic design and printing support creating professional publications.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Client Services, Projects and Innovation, and working collaboratively with other client services librarians across two campus libraries and multiple sites, you will provide in-depth reference and research services, plan and deliver training, promote and outreach to staff on library services, and provide client services. You will:
- Undertake in-depth evidence-based medical and health reference and research services, including conducting searches for general and grey literature and systematic, scoping, rapid, mixed methods or qualitative reviews. Provide guidance and advice to clients on conducting systematic, scoping, rapid, mixed methods or qualitative reviews.
- Plan, develop, and deliver client training programs through both face-to-face and online platforms, in the effective use of eResources, information and research literacy, library services and online access issue resolution.
- Promote library services through outreach to clients using both virtual and traditional marketing tools. Including developing and disseminating information on library services to specific client groups.
- In collaboration with other library staff, perform rostered service desk duties and client service activities including online resource troubleshooting, acquisitions, cataloguing, document supply, collection maintenance, library administration and procedure development.
- Proactively recommend innovative ways to improve client services, service delivery and use of library systems to meet library client needs.
- Undertake project work as directed that contributes to innovating or improving library services and collections.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but is not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as librarianship, informatics, sciences or humanities.
Desirable
- Qualification in Library and Information Science recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific experience includes, but is not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Prior experience working in a library or relevant industry.
Desirable
- Prior experience working professionally in a health library or related information unit.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

What you Require (Key Selection Criteria)
These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience.
- Experience conducting evidence-based searches, preferably in a medical context. These searches include general literature, citated references, grey literature and for systematic, scoping, rapid, mixed methods or qualitative reviews. A demonstrated ability or ability to acquire skills in effectively using databases and other tools to synthesise evidence and interpret and evaluate information.
- Demonstrated experience in core client services work including outreach and service promotion, training development and delivery, rostered desk duties, enquiry management, document delivery, and/or library administration.
- Ability to work positively and collaboratively within a team and support team and organisational goals. Well-developed liaison and communication skills to build productive relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ability to innovate in the delivery of library services including in the use of modern technologies in the library. A demonstrated commitment to a culture of continuous improvement.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
