Position overview
AAHS Physiotherapy provides services to a range of clients in acute inpatient and specialised outpatient settings predominately on site at Canberra Health services. This includes acute care services across 7 days and extended hours of service provision. Early career HPO2 staff rotate across inpatient and specialised outpatient services with opportunities for longer development rotations in some clinical service areas. Our Physiotherapists work closely with patients, carers, referrers, other health care professionals and multidisciplinary teams to achieve safe high-quality patient care. A culture of ongoing learning, on the job training, professional development and formal clinical supervision is fostered by the department, teams and individuals.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Provide appropriate physiotherapy assessment and interventions to patients using established principles, techniques and methods in an acute hospital setting.
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients and carers, the multidisciplinary treating team, and service providers to ensure timely and quality service provision across the continuum of care.
- Complete clinical documentation, program records and activity data entry to standards required and complying with records management policy and procedures.
- Exercise independent judgment on routine matters and under generally decreasing professional supervision when performing novel, complex or critical tasks.
- Assist in the supervision and education of Health Professional 1 staff, students, allied health assistants and other support staff; and participate in education programs to support clinical service delivery, and supervision, teaching and training capability.
- Participate in clinical supervision, continuing professional development, performance appraisal and development.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Physiotherapy
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific experience include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Minimum of one year full-time equivalent work experience as a Physiotherapist.
Desirable
- Prior experience working in acute hospital setting will be highly desirable.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing the required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

- Proven ability and experience in assessing patients, clinically reasoning, planning and implementing physiotherapy treatment programs in an acute care setting including appropriate patient/carer education.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain high professional standards and met organisation responsibilities for clinical documentation, activity data entry and clinical service records and data collection.
- Demonstrated knowledge of clinical governance with commitment to and experience in quality improvement activities, performance evaluation, clinical supervision and education, research and health promotion.
- Demonstrates a commitment to work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience and displays behaviour consistent with Canberra Health Service’s values of Reliable, Progressive, Respectful and Kind.
