Position overview

The Research Ethics and Governance Office (REGO) are responsible for research governance processes and management of the ACT Health Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and its sub-committees, including secretariat support, policy development and project management.

The Research Ethics Officer provides administrative support for the ethics functions of the REGO, including secretariat support the ACT Health HREC, records management, financial administration, database maintenance and stakeholder liaison. It is expected that the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate attention to detail, be familiar with the legislative and policy requirements of digital record keeping and management and have an understanding of the confidentiality requirements of the office.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  1. Under general direction, provide high-level administrative support for the efficient management and operation of REGO’s human research ethics functions.
  2. Liaise with HREC members, researchers, research coordinators, and other internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the smooth functioning of research ethics processes.
  3. Provision of high-level secretariat and administrative support to meetings (including HREC meetings) and other forums as required, including the preparation of detailed agendas and development of minutes and correspondence for committee meetings.
  4. Assist with the maintenance of databases, electronic management systems, annual reports, and compilation of performance data under the data retention policies and procedures.
  5. Coordinate and manage financial functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journaling and reconciliation of accounts.
  6. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Computer literacy skills are required, which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
