Position overview

Canberra Health Services CFO Division is led by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The Division is responsible for developing and maintaining budgets, financial management, and providing strong operational finance and performance reporting analysis across the health service.

We provide financial advice and reporting to the hospital, including activity performance reports and business insights. Our dedicated Financial Business Partners provide direct support to clinical and operations partners, ensuring timely and accurate information is available to enhance critical decision support.

As part of the Revenue and Hospital Financial Services team you will manage a small team that provides secretariat support to multiple committees relating to Private Practice Funds and the management of the Medical Education Expenses (MEE) in conjunction with the Medical Practitioners Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA).

Key Responsibilities

Under limited direction of the Assistant Director, you will:

  1. Manage and provide leadership to a small team of administrative staff including:
    • To provide administrative and secretariat support for multiple committees.
    • To ensure applications to committee meetings comply with relevant policies and procedures and Enterprise Bargaining Agreement entitlements across a broad range of staff classifications.
    • Manage human resources to achieve a high-quality service and a positive team environment.  This includes coordination of staff recruitment, development, training and performance management agreements.
  2. Oversee the preparation and quality assurance of meeting papers for multiple committees and associated Annual Meetings. Approve authorised expenditure in line with meeting outcomes and in conjunction with the database of entitlements.
  3. Calculate and maintain the database for Medical Education Expenses entitlements in line with the relevant Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.
  4. Research, analyse and present information associated with the Private Practice Funds income and expenditure and Medical Education Expenses entitlements. Provide routine and adhoc analysis and reporting on a range of subjects relevant to the committees.
  5. Develop and foster effective working relationships across the Canberra Health Services and ACT Health Directorate to achieve effective outcomes.
  6. Undertake other duties appropriate to the level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

  3. Proven secretariat experience for multiple concurrent committees and the delivery of high-quality papers, including research and analysis of income and expenditures.
  4. Demonstrated experience in maintaining accurate databases of information with attention to detail, including advanced computer skills in Word and Excel.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
