Women, Youth and Children Community Health Programs delivers a range of health care community-based services to women, children, young people, and families. These services include support, education, and information; counselling, assessment and screening; early identification and referral; and the delivery of public health programs. Services are delivered within a multidisciplinary context if not by a multidisciplinary team.

The Enhanced Health Services (EHS) includes the Early Family Support Service (EFSS), Enhanced Child Health Service (ECHS), Developmental Paediatric and Child Protection Medical Service (DPCPMS), and Women’s Health Service (WHS).

Physiotherapists work within the Early Family Support Counselling and Physiotherapy (EFSCP) Team in the Early Family Support Service to provide services for women three to twelve months postnatal, as well as to infants under twelve months of age for a range of concerns including torticollis, neck issues and positional talipes. Services provided are evidence based, collaborative, and holistic, with acknowledgment of the importance of sensitive, trauma informed care.

This is a rewarding and exciting position within a vibrant service that is suitable for a dynamic, flexible, and skilled physiotherapist with a solid background in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, women’s health, and with paediatric experience particularly in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal and developmental issues for babies, who is committed to working in a multidisciplinary team to deliver care to women and infants.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Provide a high level of appropriate, skilled clinical physiotherapy assessment and interventions across a range of clinical areas. Exercise independent professional judgement in solving problems and managing cases where principles, procedures and techniques require expansion, adaptation, or modification. This includes liaising with carers and other service providers to facilitate effective service provision.
  2. Contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of client programs and analysis of policies and procedures applicable to professional practice
  3. Consult and liaise with services and teams within EHS, across WYCCHP, and externally across ACT and NSW organisations, to coordinate the delivery of seamless, holistic care and interventions for consumers, with a focus on achieving enhanced health and wellbeing outcomes and to develop partnerships for health promotion.
  4. Under professional supervision, participate in and/or implement and coordinate research programs in relevant areas of service delivery. May be expected to contribute to advances of the techniques used.
  5. Participate in supervision, continuing professional development and performance management, including professional supervision and/or training to other staff and students as directed, and initiate and coordinate quality improvement activities in areas of specialty.
  6. Contribute to a positive workplace culture by building collegial professional relationships and demonstrating a commitment to proactively seeking solutions when issues arise.
  7. Model an exemplary level of professional and ethical standards in clinical interventions and uphold the National Quality and Safety Health Care Standards.
  8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

  • Pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
  • Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
  • Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

  1. Proven ability and experience in the delivery of a range of complex physiotherapy services for women in the antenatal and postnatal periods and with infants up 12 months of age through the integration of evidence into clinical practice.
  2. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement appropriate individual and group physiotherapy programs and services and to evaluate outcomes for these.
  3. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients, carers, and staff, including the ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team and to co-ordinate holistic care with other health professionals and service care providers.
  4. Demonstrated ability to maintain high professional standards and meet organisational requirements for record keeping, data collection and quality improvement activities such as clinical governance, service development, research programs and health promotion in relevant areas.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays’ behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
