Position overview
The role of a Pharmacy Storeperson/Courier is to participate as an active member of the pharmacy team to promote and provide exceptional patient care by ensuring the safe and efficient receipt, storage, and delivery of medicines across the Canberra Hospital campus.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Inventory Management: Receive, unpack, verify, and stock pharmaceutical supplies and medical equipment, maintaining accurate records in paper and electronic systems.
- Medication Handling: Ensure proper medication storage, including cold-chain maintenance, and identify/report expired or damaged items.
- Pharmacy Operations: Stock shelves, conduct routine stocktakes, maintain replenishment systems, and respond professionally to phone and in‑person enquiries, and adhere to all hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulations.
- Delivery and Distribution: Safely transport medications on foot within the hospital precinct (no driving required), package dispensed medicines, and deliver them promptly while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and appropriate urgency.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in training, quality projects, and rotational shifts to contribute to continuous improvement.
- Safety and Incident Reporting: Maintain a clean work environment, follow hazardous materials handling procedures, and report any safety concerns to supervisors.
- Data Management: Update electronic and paper logs with real-time inventory movements and delivery status for accurate record-keeping.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- Must be able to undertake mandatory training as required by CHS.

- Relevant training or certification in logistics or supply chain management.
Experience

- Familiarity with using basic computer systems.
Desirable
- Experience in storeperson and logistics in healthcare or a comparable environment.
- Previous experience in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Knowledge of cold-chain management and medication handling.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

- Demonstrated ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the role, including manual handling, frequent movement across hospital areas, and stock handling in accordance with WHS and manual‑handling guidelines.
