Position overview
The Infrastructure and Health Support Services (IHSS), Operational Support Services (OSS), is responsible for the provision of a range of client services to support the operations across various Canberra Health Services (CHS) locations. These services include:
- Fire Safety and Emergency Response
- Mail Room Services
- Parking and Fleet Management
- Residential Accommodation Services
- Security
- Switchboard
- Main Reception
- Volunteer Services
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
General Administrative Functions
- Preparation and/or receipting of accounts for payment.
- Conduct mail sorting, filing and record keeping.
- Receive and respond to written and verbal general enquiries and draft basic correspondence.
- Submission and tracking of maintenance requests.
- Provision of advice and guidance to customers and assistance to other staff.
- Data entry for effective management of the CHS fleet, including but not limited to vehicle data, driver authorisations, home garaging authorisations, Fringe Benefit Tax reporting requirements, fuel card allocations etc.
- Maintain electronic and hard copy records.
Parking & Fleet Functions
- Record and report on matters affecting, or likely to affect, parking management at Canberra Hospital, including reporting and following up on maintenance matters relevant to the carparks.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders with regards to parking and fleet management; including but not limited to answering the parking phone, arranging exemptions and drafting responses to feedback.
- Patrol and enforce designated parking areas in accordance with the Road Transport Act 1999; including attending ACT Magistrates Court on prosecution matters arising from parking infringements issued through CHS Parking Operations.
Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
Qualifications and Experience
Specific qualifications and experience includes, but is not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Current Driver’s License C Class.
Desirable
- Parking enforcement Officer training.
- Previous experience in general administration in public or private sector is desirable.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

- Demonstrated experience in general administration duties, with sound communication and liaison skills; particularly the ability to apply these skills with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders, including those experiencing distress.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and proven ability to work in a team environment and problem solve independently.
- Experience in the use of an electronic information system and data entry or the ability learn a new data entry system.
- Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office applications, including email, excel spreadsheets and databases with good attention to detail.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
