Position overview
The RACS Occupational Therapy service is a dynamic team of occupational therapists and allied health assistants (AHAs) providing exceptional care through high quality assessment and therapeutic intervention. We treat and manage patients with a range of medical conditions including: neurological, orthopaedic, complex medical and frail aged.
The HP2 Occupational Therapist is responsible for delivering high quality, evidence based clinical services with increasing autonomy to a range of patients within a designated clinical area. This includes the provision of evidence-based assessments and interventions to facilitate positive patient outcomes. The HP2 clinician will engage in student supervision, support junior colleagues as appropriate, and demonstrate developing leadership in clinical discussions, service planning, and professional practice activities within the occupational therapy team.
This role is part of the HP2 Rehabilitation, Aged and Community Services rotational program which provides an opportunity to complete 6-months rotations across the division to gain experience in a variety of clinical areas.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Provide appropriate assessment and interventions using contemporary evidence-based principles, techniques, and methods. Interventions may be delivered in an individual or group setting.
- Work collaboratively as part of your work area team.
- Provide high level communication and liaising with patients, family, staff and other service providers to facilitate effective service provision.
- Participate in clinical governance activity, quality improvement projects, research programs and health promotion in areas relevant to service.
- Participate in supervision of students and allied health assistants, continuing professional development, performance management and contribute to the teaching and training for areas of clinical service delivery.
- Participate in your own professional education, supervision and performance review process.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy
- Be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Hold a current driver license
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Essential
- A minimum of 12 months experience working professionally in a clinically relevant area.
Desirable
- Prior experience providing services to adults in a rehabilitation setting.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

What you Require (Key Selection Criteria)
These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience.
- Proven experience, knowledge, and skills in providing evidence based Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions for clients with functional impairment resulting in neurological, orthopaedic, aged and general medical and/or surgical conditions in a rehabilitation or aged care setting.
- Demonstrated high-level oral and written communication skills, including computer skills, to complete case records and to produce high level written reports to the standards of Canberra Health Services.
- Ability to work effectively within Occupational Therapy and multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate with other service providers to ensure effective patient outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver patient centred services that meet high safety and quality standards, including a demonstrated understanding of and participation in professional development, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement activities.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health, and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
