Position overview

As a member of the Occupational Therapy Department at North Canberra Hospital (NCH), you will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide patient care and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives based on evidence-based practice.

The role includes rotations across:

  • Medical wards
  • Surgical wards
  • Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU)
  • Neurology
  • Hospital in the Home (HITH)
  • Claire Holland House

Under the limited direction of the Director of Occupational Therapy, you will undertake occupational therapy assessments and treatment interventions. You will provide customer-focused care to patients and carers through competent clinical practice and effective communication while maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Provide customer-focused care to patients and carers through competent clinical skills.
  • Participate effectively in multidisciplinary and occupational therapy teams.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, carers, staff, and medical practitioners while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Take responsibility for professional development, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Maintain patient activity statistics and provide reports as required.
  • Promote risk management and clinical/corporate governance principles in occupational therapy practice.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties directed by the departmental manager.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the classification level that support organisational operations.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Full, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence or recognised international equivalent

  • A minimum 12-months post-graduation experience working professionally in occupational therapy.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

  • Pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
  • Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

  4. Previous experience with and effective participation in quality improvement activities.
  5. Commitment to utilising professional development activity to improve clinical outcomes for patients in your care.
  6. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
