Position overview
The Psychology team in Acute Allied Health Services provides evidence-based care to inpatients and outpatients across the Canberra Hospital and Canberra Health Services. Canberra Hospital is an acute care teaching hospital of approximately 600 beds, and a tertiary referral centre that provides a broad range of specialist services to the people of the ACT and Southeast NSW. The team consists of Registered/Health/Clinical Psychologists and Clinical Neuropsychologists.
An exciting opportunity exists for a Neuropsychologist to join the friendly and supportive Acute Allied Health Services Psychology team. We work closely with our multidisciplinary colleagues and have a pivotal role in promoting client centred outcomes across the inpatient and outpatient settings.

- Cognitive rehabilitation (e.g. for adult clients following stroke or traumatic brain injury)

Depending on clinical caseloads, the position may be located at the following locations:
- The Canberra Hospital and the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Under limited direction of the Manager of Acute Psychology and under clinical/professional supervision (noting clinical supervision will be negotiated with the Acute Psychology Manager), You will:
- Provide appropriate skilled neuropsychology clinical assessment and intervention to adults, adolescents and children, across a range of clinical areas, with routine supervision, including liaising with carers and other service providers to facilitate effective service provision.
- Exercise independent professional judgement in solving problems and managing complex cases where principles, procedures and techniques require expansion, adaptation or modification.
- Actively contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of client programs and services including clinical and administrative data collection, analysis and evaluation to standard.
- Consistent with relevant Psychology Board of Australia requirements, provide supervision and/or training to other staff and students as directed.
- Actively contribute to education programs for area of clinical service delivery.
- Actively contribute to the development, analysis, evaluation and planning of services in specific areas of work, as required.
- Actively contribute to the organisation as appropriate and the implementation of clinical governance activity, quality improvement projects, research programs, and health promotion in areas relevant to service.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications.
- Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia under AHPRA.
- Area of Practice Endorsement in Neuropsychology.
- Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisor for higher degree students.
Desirable
- Eligibility for (or willingness to work towards) Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisor for Clinical Neuropsychology registrars.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working as a neuropsychologist.
Desirable
- 5 or more years’ experience working as a neuropsychologist.
- Previous work experience as a neuropsychologist in an acute hospital setting.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.
