The Medical Imaging Department at CHS operates 24 hours, seven days week, providing a wide range of diagnostic imaging services. The service provides state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology and nuclear medicine services to patients in Canberra and the Southeast Region of NSW. The service is committed to providing patients with contemporary diagnostic and interventional radiology, as well as molecular imaging services with a strong commitment to research and training in advancing the use of imaging for diagnosis and treatment of disease.

The Medical Imaging Department forms part of the CHS Medical Services Group which also includes Pharmacy, Healthcare Technology Management, the Prevocational Education and Training, the Medical Officer Support, Credentialling, Employment and Training Unit (MOSCETU), the GP Liaison Unit (GPLU), ACT Blood Counts Program and the CHS Library and Multimedia.

This MRI level 3 Radiographer position will need to perform all aspects of MRI while always observing departmental protocols and MRI Safety. In addition to the provision of excellent patient care, the position contributes to scheduling and throughput of patients, effective utilisation of available resources to support MRI in the Medical Imaging Department, supervision to junior staff and students to ensure high quality clinical service, and timely patient care.

This position is required to support the Medical Imaging Department in the provision of a 24 hour, seven days a week service. This includes shift work, overtime and on-call duties outside of normal business hours where required.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Under limited direction of the MI4 MRI Radiographer and MRI Modality Manager, you will perform MRI across Canberra Hospital and relevant satellite sites You will:

  1. Perform all aspects of MRI while observing departmental and local protocols whilst adhering to MRI Safety procedures.
  2. Liaise with multidisciplinary team members to facilitate timely care for patients, working with team leaders and managers to ensure cost effective service delivery.
  3. Contribute to the evaluation and analysis of policies and procedures applicable to professional practice.
  4. Participate in ongoing professional education, and assist with the supervision, training, and mentoring of junior staff and students.
  5. Initiate and coordinate quality improvement activities and quality assurance programs, exercising independent professional judgement in problem solving and service delivery.
  6. Report equipment failures, maintain records of service history, and maintain appropriate records of procedures.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Medical Radiation Science (Radiography) or equivalent.
  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Eligible for membership with the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy.
  • Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy MRI Level 1 certification.
  • As required, hold or be eligible for an ACT Radiation licence.

Desirable

  • Qualification and/or experience in a relevant education field e.g., Graduate Certificate in MRI and/or willingness to work towards relevant education qualifications.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Experience

Essential

  • A minimum of three years’ post-graduate experience working in a multi-disciplinary medical imaging department, preferably within a trauma and teaching hospital is preferred.
  • The successful applicant will need to be available to undertake shift work participating in a 24/7 roster including after-hours and weekend, as well as participation in on-call rosters.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

  • Pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
  • Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.
