Position overview

This position is responsible for rostering medical officers across the Canberra Hospital and University of Canberra Hospital. Applications may be considered on application and reference reports only.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Manage the recruitment for the junior and senior medical workforce at the Canberra Hospital (TCH), and other administrative processes related to the junior medical workforce; and
  • Medical Rostering and administration for the Junior Medical workforce at TCH, including a 24/7 medical rostering on-call service; and
  • The development, co-ordination, management and facilitation of the Prevocational Junior Medical Officer Education and Training Program; and
  • Manage the recruitment, rostering and administration related to the Junior Medical workforce.

Under broad direction from the Medical Roster Team Manager, you will ensure efficient, reliable and high-quality rostering, administrative and support services to the Junior Medical workforce of Canberra Health Services (CHS). Assist in the provision of financial accountability and FTE governance over the JMO cohort of CHS.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Under limited direction of the Medical Roster Manager, you will perform day to day rostering task related the JMOs. You will:

  • Assist in the development of JMO rosters to ensure they meet the clinical, educational and Enterprise Agreement requirements.
  • Maintenance of the JMO rosters, including daily rostering adjustments for leave and unrostered overtime, and appropriate provision of clinical cover in the event of unscheduled leave.
  • Provide advice and assistance to staff at all levels on general rostering and related enterprise agreement interpretation.
  • Manage/oversee the leave approval process and maintain records in relation to Junior Medical Officer leave.
  • Participate in the 24/7 rostering on-call service, including weekend on-call cover.
  • Assist in the management and analysis of the salary reports for Junior Medical staff, including those on secondment to external hospitals.
  • Assist in the management of the reconciliation and billing of secondment hospitals in relation to junior medical staff.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications & Experience

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

  • Previous rostering experience in a public hospital environment.
  • Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

  1. Proven experience or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the processes and procedures involved in rostering, including a working knowledge of enterprise agreements or similar employment frameworks.
  2. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills, including the ability to liaise with staff at all levels and contribute to a positive work environment.
  3. Proven ability to plan, organise and prioritise tasks, especially as a member of a small team.
  4. Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call service, providing advice on medical rostering matters across TCH.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
