Position overview

CHS Dental is in the Division of Rehabilitation, Aged and Community Services and offers a range of public dental services to the community including:

  • Child and Youth  dental services to all children under the age of 14 years who live in or  attend an ACT school.
  • Young people under  the age of 18 with access to a Services Australia issued Pension Concession or  Health Care Card.
  • Adult dental  services for ACT residents who are the primary holder of a Services Australia  issued Pension Concession or Health Care Card.

Whilst providing services that include, preventative dental interventions and health promotion, emergency dental care, restorative and prosthetic dental care and some orthodontic interventions for eligible clients.

These services are delivered in the community to:

  • Gungahlin Health Centre
  • Belconnen Health Centre
  • Civic Health Centre
  • Phillip Health Centre
  • Tuggeranong Health Centre
  • Alexander Maconochie Centre
  • Mobile Dental Clinics

The Liaison Officer position is currently located in Civic and is part of CHS Dental Administration Team.

Under limited direction, you will play a key role in the coordination of clients removed from CHS Dental Waiting lists including referral to external providers, processing claims for payment including Medicare for the Child Dental Benefits Scheme and liaising with both internal and external stakeholders. This role plays a key part of providing eligible clients with timely Dental treatment.

Key Responsibilities

Under direction of the Administration Manager and Referral Scheme Supervisor you will perform the role of Liaison Officer. You will:

  1. Coordinate both internal and external bookings of clients that have been removed from the CHS Dental waiting lists.
  2. Under limited direction evaluate and process creditors’ claims for payment.
  3. Enter accurate data into the appropriate spreadsheets and clinical database to track performance against targets.
  4. Prioritise individual workload to ensure that targets are met each month.
  5. Work in accordance with the ACT Financial Management ACT 1996 and CHS Directorate Director General Financial Instructions.
  6. Participate as a member of CHS Dental Administration team.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

  1. Proven experience in administration duties including processing discharge packs, checking and preparing invoices for payment and data entry.
  2. Knowledge of or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the CHS Dental external referral process and the ability to apply the CHS Dental Business Rules.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of an electronic clinical record and Microsoft office applications, including experience in the management of client and official files both electronic and hard copy.
  4. Sound organisation and problem-solving skills including the ability to determine priorities and actively contribute to a team environment.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behavior consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
