Position overview
The RACS Inpatient Physiotherapy service has a dynamic team of physiotherapists and allied health assistants who work to enhance function, activity, and independence for patients at the Canberra Hospital and University of Canberra Hospital Campuses. We treat and manage clients requiring rehabilitation with a range of conditions, including neurological disorders, amputations, musculoskeletal injuries and the elderly.
The overall functions of a physiotherapist in this service under professional supervision include:
- Delivering positive patient outcomes through the provision of high quality patient centred care.
- Delivering individual and group treatment sessions.
- Applying knowledge, skills, professional judgement, and initiative in the delivery of routine services.
The inpatient Physiotherapy manager is responsible for overseeing and achieving efficient and effective patient centred services, staffing and resource management. You will provide clinical leadership, management and guidance to the inpatient Physiotherapy team as well as provide regular input into, and form, an integral part of the RACS Allied Health leadership team. You will be required to provide oversight of professional development and supervision and promote participatation in quality improvement and research initiatives.
This full-time leadership role is a great opportunity for an experienced senior clinician to stretch themselves and explore their passion for health service management. This recruitment round is for expected temporary vacancy for up to 6 months with potential for extension and/or permanency.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide professional leadership and management to staff within a team.
- Provide leadership for the development, management, reporting and evaluation of team activity against targets and governance requirements, and the use of financial, human and physical resources.
- Contribute to policy development, planning and clinical standards for team in consultation with professionals, senior management and staff.
- Provide clinical interventions and professional advice across a range of clinical areas relevant to discipline, or complex, novel or critical work at a high level of expertise.
- Initiate and facilitate clinical governance within the team, including quality improvement activity, continuing professional development and research in conjunction with management and Professional Lead.
- Actively support teaching and training activity relating to professional field within team. While assisting with continuing professional development and performance management.
- Complete clinical and administrative data collection and evaluation to standards, data retention policies and procedures.
- Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high-quality person and family centred, safe and high quality patient care.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in Physiotherapy.
- Be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Hold a current driver license.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific experience include but are not limited to the following.
Essential
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working professionally as a Physiotherapist in a health care setting.
Desirable
- Relevant post graduate qualifications and/or extensive professional experience within a Rehabilitation, Geriatric and/or Sub-acute care setting.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.
