Position overview
The Exercise Physiology Department is an acute service to support patient flow and patient outcomes within The Canberra Hospital. The team specialise in the provision of clinical exercise intervention, education and lifestyle management for inpatient and outpatient hospital-based populations.
The position includes clinical service delivery, involvement in quality improvement activities, provision of supervision to students and junior staff, and collaboration with the Exercise Physiology and wider multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Under professional supervision, you will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality patient centred care and associated functions. You will:
- Provide appropriate Exercise Physiology assessment and intervention using established principles, techniques and methods with support. This includes delivery of safe and effective prescription and education in person and via telehealth.
- Provide and document holistic care. This includes liaison and collaboration with referrers and other health providers, completing patient notes and communication to required standards, and tracking of your service provision.
- Actively participate in clinical supervision, team discussions and meetings, quality improvement activities, educational programs, and the training and support of staff and students when required.
- Contribute to implementation of the National Safety and Quality in Health Service Standards within the service and the organisation.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Exercise Physiology degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Current accreditation or eligibility for accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Essential
- Mandatory minimum of 1-year post-qualification clinical experience.
Desirable
- Previous clinical experience working in a hospital setting.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
