Position overview
Mental Health, Justice Health and Alcohol & Drug Services (MHJHADS) provides health services directly and through partnerships with community organisations. The services provided range from prevention and treatment to recovery and maintenance and harm minimisation. Consumer and carer participation is encouraged in all aspects of service planning and delivery. The Division works in partnership with consumers, carers and a range of government and non-government service providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients.
The Division delivers services at several locations, including hospital inpatient and outpatient settings, community health centres, detention centres, other community settings including peoples’ home. These services include:
- Adult Community Mental Health Services (ACMHS)
- Adult Inpatient Mental Health Services (AIMHS)
- Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
- Forensic Mental Health Services (FMHS)
- Alcohol & Drug Services (ADS)
- Justice Health Services (JHS)
Reporting to the Business Manager and working closely to the General Manager, the Executive Officer is responsible for the coordination of all incoming and outgoing correspondence within the Office, liaison with the Government Relations team on the provision of high-level advice to the Ministers office, and other priority projects. This role also provides high level support and advice to other senior leaders and their support teams across CHS.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Prepare correspondence, briefs and other documentation on behalf of the General Manager and Office.
- Manage the generic mailbox and all incoming and outgoing correspondence, including requests for briefing and coordination of responses for MHJHADS.
- Undertake research hand provide high level advice to the General Manager on strategic, administrative and operational matters to assist decision making.
- Liaise with the Government Relations team to ensure the provision of timely advice to the Minister’s office.
- Support the General Manager at regular meetings with other Executives, governing bodies and for other high-level meetings through the provision of briefing and high-level advice.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and programs addressing core business of the Directorate, including planning and managing key projects as required.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

- Liaising with other government bodies and business and community organisations, including the provision of public information on programs, activities or services.
Qualifications and Experience
Specific qualifications and experience include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Prior experience in relevant public sector or equivalent experience.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, and all other related frameworks.
- Relevant qualifications in public sector management and/or relevant public sector experience.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Prior experience in the health sector will be highly desirable
- Current Drivers licence
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

- Proven developed research and analytical skills, with the demonstrated ability to be solutions focused, identify, and make sound judgements on sensitive and complex issues.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate with stakeholders internally and externally to CHS.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health, and safety (WH&S) and positive patient experience. Displays’ behaviours consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
