Position overview

The Division of Surgery delivers inpatient and outpatients surgical services to the ACT and surrounding region. The Division includes the ACT Trauma Service, Acute Surgical Unit, Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Intensive Care Unit, Neurosurgery, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Pain Management Unit, Plastic Surgery, Retrieval Services, Urology, Vascular Surgery and the Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Unit.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Executive Officer provides high level support and coordination to deliver the objectives and priorities of the division. This role is responsible for the coordination and preparation of government business including briefings and correspondence, internal minutes, cabinet submissions and assembly material, and divisional business and projects.

Key Responsibilities

Under limited direction, you will perform a range of Executive Officer duties. You will:

  1. Coordinate Divisional and Government business including preparation of Cabinet, Assembly, Ministerial and Executive briefings and correspondence and provide advice on these matters to ensure high quality Divisional responses.
  2. Liaise with the Government Relations team to ensure the provision of timely advice to Minister’s offices and across CHS with key stakeholders to address internal and external briefings and correspondence.
  3. Undertake research and prepare advice for the Executive Director on strategic, administrative and operational matters to assist decision making.
  4. Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and programs addressing core business of the division.
  5. Contributing to the development and implementation of policies and programs addressing core business of the division, including planning and managing key projects as required.
  6. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
